Helldivers 2’s new Democracy Space Station (DSS) is a big step toward finally providing an endgame currency sink. However, it’s notably missing a way for players to spend their Super Samples, and it’s also proving to be quite a controversial feature forHelldivers 2that some players are refusing to engage with.

Even if a way to donate Super Samples tothe new DSS inHelldivers 2becomes available, it may not solve this problem of introducing a worthwhile currency sink for every player. So, in the meantime of adding a proper endgame currency sink that appeals to all players, there’s plenty of room forHelldivers 2to add more purchasable gear upgrades or cosmetics to hold players over.

Helldivers 2 Needs a Super Sample Currency Sink Sooner Rather Than Later

Apart from providing players a useful boost to their liberation efforts for the planet that the DSS is sent to, players can finally donate some of their excess Requisition Slips, Common Samples, and Rare Samples to the DSS inHelldivers 2to take advantage of temporary special effects in missions. However, there’s still no currency sink forSuper Samples inHelldivers 2, so adding this would be an obvious next step for the DSS. The longer it takes for a Super Sample currency sink to be added toHelldivers 2, the growing number of players who reach the Super Sample capacity in the meantime will naturally lose interest in collecting them.

This is quite understandable, as collecting Super Samples and bringing them safely to extraction can be an unnecessary risk, although this can be frustrating for players on the team who have yet to reach the Super Sample capacity. So, while justified, this kind of behavior can further separate the gap between players who have max Super Samples and players who don’t, hence why a Super Sample currency sink is such an urgent issue forfuture updates forHelldivers 2to address and unite the playerbase with the common goal of collecting more Super Samples.

Helldivers 2 Still Needs More Endgame Currency Sinks After the DSS

Since there are already opportunities to donate most other currencies in the game to the DSS, it seems like only a matter of time until the DSS provides a recurring currency sink for Super Samples. However, there’s plenty of room to expand beyond this with uses for Super Samples, especially considering that the DSS has turned out to beanother controversial feature inHelldivers 2, that some players aren’t interested in donating to.

The primary reason why the DSS is such a controversial feature is that there are currently minimal protections in place to prevent the bombardment effects from killing players without specifically changing to anarmor and Stratagem loadout inHelldivers 2with explosive-resistant gear and shields.

How Helldivers 2 Can Introduce More New Currency Sinks

While Ship Module upgrades have been introduced before, there is still arguably room to expand with more of these upgrades. Meanwhile, there are countless opportunities forHelldivers 2to explore weapon upgrades and cosmetics that could give players a worthwhile currency sink.

Although any new currency sink added toHelldivers 2that isn’t temporary and/or repeatable will eventually repeat the cycle where players will once again have more Requisition Slips and Samples than they can spend, there are arguably enough opportunities to add one-time purchasable items to the game that it will presumably be a long time before most players reach that point again, if ever. At the very least, having a few of these options become available periodically will bide some time for a currency sink that will be useful for all players, since the controversy surroundingHelldivers 2’s DSS means that it doesn’t quite have the full community’s support yet.
