Amazon Has Never Seemed Very Interested In Promoting The Bosch-verse

Prior to 2014, Amazon was primarily known for being a delivery service, but when Netflix evolved into a fully fledged streaming platform, Jeff Bezos jumped on the bandwagon and Prime Video was born. Amazon needed a flagship show to launch them into the stratosphere, and they called onMichael Connelly’s successful book seriesabout LAPD detective, Harry Bosch, and adapted it for television. They toyed with a few different shows, but it wasBoschthat put Amazon on the map, and it continues to flourish over a decade later, albeit via the spin-offBosch: Legacy. Despite the success of the Bosch-verse,Amazon has never felt the need to actually promote the show, often resting on its laurels and relying on the fans to push it.

There has always been this strange attitude towardsBoschandBosch: Legacy, almost like Amazon had wanted to cancel it for several years.Bosch: Legacyis the only show on television that actually seems to know where it’s going, using the blueprint of Michael Connelly’s superb novels to guide it over the years. Fans signed a petition to persuade Amazon to extend it after seven successful seasons of the originalBoschseries and they listened, andBosch: Legacywas born from that. It finally seemed like Amazon was realizing the potential for universe building, with the announcement that two spin-offs were in the works back in 2023:BallardandtheJerry Edgarsolo show. However, Amazon finally saw an opportune moment to ditchBosch: Legacylast year, withBallardon the horizon, andthey show no signs of actually giving the show one final promotional push ahead of its forced final season.

It’s been several months since the two images ofHarry Bosch and Renee Ballardwere released, showing them joining forces in the final episode ofBosch: Legacyseason 3. Since then, there had been nothing to promoteBosch: Legacyuntil the image ofBosch and Chandlerrunning from danger was released last month. In hindsight,Amazon was more interested in looking ahead to theBallardspin-off, than actually focusing on promoting the upcoming season ofBosch: Legacyall those months ago.Reacheris the teacher’s pet over at Amazon right now, and there have been exclusive pictures, a teaser and full trailer, accompanied by updates from the cast and crew ahead of its third season, which is set to air next month. As forBosch: Legacy: nothing but silence.

The cast and crew ofBosch: Legacyclearly aren’t allowed to speak, as fans have heard nothing from them since the cringe-inducing ‘thanks for everything Amazon’ statements, back in September 2024, after the streamer canceled the show. It’s around two months untilBosch: Legacyis set to be released, and Amazon shows no signs of actually promoting the show. It’s not like they are still working on it ahead of its release, as it’s been in the can for months. In fact,Bosch: Legacycould have been released in the Fall of 2024, similar to when season 2 landed the previous year.Did Amazon delayBosch: Legacyto move it closer to Ballard’s release in late 2025? Most likely. They probably figured they could useBosch: Legacyas a promotional tool forBallard, while burying the majority of season 3 to coincide with the release of the juggernaut that isReacherin February.Reacherwill conveniently end its third run just in time for Amazon to promote that standalone final episode ofBosch: Legacyseason 3, which will act as a backdoor pilot forBallard. Case solved.
