Summary

There has been a lot of talk about several members of the original line-up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes appearing inAvengers: Doomsdayand/orAvengers: Secret Warsover the last few weeks especially. Of course, while that talk centered around people like Robert Downey Jr. and now Chris Evans, there was one character that was never really mentioned, since Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow was killed off as part of setting things rightAvengers: End Game.

Black Widow selflessly flung herself off a cliff as part of a mission undertaken by the Avengers to reverse the damage Thanos had done to the universe with theInfinity Stones inAvengers: Infinity War. The moment was an emotioanlly touching moment as she and Clint Barton argued and fought over who would give their life in exchange for the Soul Stone and she eventually “won” that fight in part because she knew he had a family that he would want to see again. It was also an emotional point for all of the Avengers in End Game because they simply weren’t used to their team members dying up until that point. Of course, when Chris Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark died, they were equally emotional moments and it appears Marvel has no problem reversing course there.

Black Widow Coming Back?

That explains why a new rumor is circulating the internet that Black Widow might be returning for either or both of the newAvengersmovies. According toCBM, noted insiderDaniel Richtmanclaimed that Johansson is slated to make a similar return to Downey Jr. and Evans. That despite her claims she was done with the character after hesolo movieBlack Widowshed some light on what the former Russian operative was doing just afterAvengers: Civil War.

At this point, it appears that most of the main members of the Avengers will make a return in some way, shape or form for Avengers: Doomsday as there has been persistent talk that Wanda Maximoff will make her return as well, possiblyas an ally for Doctor Doom. Of course, Downey Jr is not coming back as Iron Man but rather as Victor Von Doom. It’s not yet known how exactly that will be handled in the new movies. Nor is it known just how Evans will make his return.

There is some talk that he could come back as an evil version of Captain America, perhaps the comic book accurate one that was from another part of the multiverse who Hydra indoctrinated. Other rumors insist that Steve Rogers will still be good, but will be Nomadinstead of Captain America. In the comics, that was a persona that Rogers took on after having the Captain America mantle taken away from him by the government.

For now, most of how this will all shake out is still very much up for debate. There has been no official confirmation that Scarlett Johansson is returning to the MCU or that she’ll be playing Black Widow if she does appear in any of the newAvengersmovies.
