Summary
APokemonfan has shared their rendition of the iconic The Creation of Adam painting by Michelangelo, giving the famous art aPokemontwist. The artist’sPokemonversion imagines the moment of creation of Mew by the creator of the Pokemon universe, Arceus.
Introduced inPokemon Red and Blue, many believe thatMew is the original Pokemonthat all other Pokemon evolved from, as it has the DNA of every Pokemon. However, after many years passed, the series revealed that Arceus was the creator of the entirePokemonuniverse. Thinking of Mew as one of the first Pokemon created by Arceus, this artist set to work on recreating the iconic piece.

Artist and Reddit user Cordio04 shared theirPokemon-fied rendition of The Creation of Adam, a religious artwork painted in the 1500s by Michelangelo that can be found on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to this day. Cordio04’s version, dubbed The Creation of Mew, shows Arceus reaching out with its front leg, which is touching Mew’s tail as it hovers in space. It’s a cute detail that acknowledges Mew’s tendency to float, especially while lying on its back, while paying tribute to Arceus' creation of the universe. The series takes plenty of inspiration from the real world, ranging from thelore of thePokemonseriesto the individual pocket monsters themselves. It’s only fitting, then, for a fan to look to something like an iconic work by one of the Renaissance masters to celebrate the creation of Mew.
Artist Seeks Advice for Pokemon Painting
While the artwork already looks great, Cordio04 isn’t done with it yet. The original fresco painting features many more people and iconography, and Cordio04 wants to expand upon their version of it. They already plan on adding the Lake Guardian Trio to the painting, which is only appropriate since the three were created by Arceus. One fan suggested that Arceus' Life Plates could include silhouettes ofall the Mythic and Legendary Pokemonof the franchise, but was concerned that would make things look too busy. Cordio04 noted that they might recolor the plates to reference them, if nothing else. Another suggested adding the Creation Trio, to which Cordio04 said that they’d give it a try.
It will be interesting to see how Cordio04 finishes their artwork. Thecreation story of thePokemonuniverseand the Pokemon residing in it is still heavily debated by fans. Some players think that Bulbasaur deserves the “first” designation, as it was the first Pokemon in the original Pokedex, while others point to Rhydon, as it was the first Pokemon designed for the games. While some might argue about the specifics, this tribute to the series is clever and charming.
