Summary
TwoAvengersmovies are coming up over five years afterEndgame. New reports revealed the production date forAvengers: Doomsdayand if there are no problems during and after filming, it is right on track for its 2026 release date.
Marvel Studios announcedAvengers: The Kang DynastyandAvengers: Secret Warsat the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. TheKang Dynastywas reportedly supposed to showtheAvengersinfiltrating Kang’s starship, Damocles Base. However,The Kang Dynasty’slead star, Jonathan Majors, was embroiled in a legal battle, leading Marvel to fire him and rebrand the next film asAvengers: Doomsdaywith Robert Downey Jr. returning as the supervillain Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. The production moved away from the initial plot due to the controversy and humdrum reception of the supervillain. Marvel announced the official title ofAvengers 5asAvengers: Doomsdayin July 2024.
The lastAvengersmovie —Avengers: Endgame— was released in 2019, so it has been over five years of waiting for the next one. Based on the document obtained by Maxblizz, production will begin in March 2025 in London, United Kingdom. It will run for five months, wrapping up in August 2025. It’s also confirmed thatThe Fantastic Fourwill be part of the film because Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss are mentioned in the document. SeveralThunderbolts*stars like Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kramen and Olga Kurtylenko are also joining the Doomsday production. Of course, familiar faces will return, likeTom Holland as Spider-Man,Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers, akaCaptain America,in multiple MCU films, will also return. However, his role has remained undisclosed. There are rumors that he will play the star-spangled superhero again, even after passing the officialCaptain Americatitle to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. Others claimed he could reprise his role as Johnny Storm, which isn’t unlike since he did it inDeadpool & Wolverine. Evans could reprise either of his former MCU roles or play a new one. Meanwhile, Downey Jr. would no longer portray the beloved character Iron-Man as he would be the supervillain in the film. Hayley Atwell and Ana de Armas were also mentioned. Atwell will likely reprise her role as Peggy Carter. On the other hand, there are no concrete details about de Armas' character, except that she “was mentioned for a role.”
Given the production timeline, it’s safe to say thatAvengers: Doomsdaywill not be delayed. If production wraps up in August, they still have nine months for post-production. Unless there is another major strike or pandemic, fans can expect the nextAvengersto hit theaters next year. And that should be the case since it’s been over half a decade since Marvel released the lastAvengersmovie.
As for the casting, it remains unclear who will lead theAvengersin their next adventure. In the last films, Iron Man and Captain America were there. It’s possible that Mackie’s Captain America will lead them. However, since Evans is also in the film, his role is something to watch out for. TheFantastic Fourwill surely be fighting with Captain America while theThunderboltsmay take a reluctant role in siding with them, since the anti-heroes are morally complex. Nevertheless, since they are a mix of characters,Avengers: Doomsdaywill surely be fun.
