Summary
Foxholeis an MMOloosely based on World War 2and sees players fight on two sides in persistent wars that can last well over a month. With so many options and huge aspects of the game to learn, it can feel a tad daunting for new players, who may also be worried about annoying their more experienced allies and mucking up the war effort.
Thankfully, 99% of the community is super nice and many players are happy to help new players when they ask. Mistakes will happen, though, and players can expect to die often or have their plans fall to pieces. That is part of the game and makes moments of victory even sweeter. There are somebeginner mistakes inFoxholethat players can avoid from the get-go, and being aware of these will help players make a difference sooner.

5Don’t Take Loads Of Supplies & Ammo To The Front
Every Piece Of Equipment Is Made By Allies With Resources & Transported To The Front
When playersfirst start playingFoxhole, they will likely go to the frontlines and fight as regular infantry soldiers. One mistake to avoid, however, is taking too much equipment such as ammo. A loaded rifle with an extra clip or two is normally enough.
The reason for this is that every gun, clip of ammo, and any other equipment was painstakingly manufactured by other players working hard at the back of the map, using harvested resources. A logistics driver will also have delivered the equipment. Not only would it be a waste to die with a full inventory of equipment, but there’s a chance of the enemy taking it and using it to enhance their war effort. If players run out of ammo on the front, either loot or head back to base for more.

4Be Careful Of AI Pillboxes
These Enemy Structures Will Gun Players Down
Pillboxes inFoxholearestructures made by players, but typically manned by AI. There are three types of Pillbox, Riffle, Machine Gun, and Anti-Tank. Players can tell if they are friendly or enemy by their flags, blue for Wardens and green for Colonials. If the flag is small, then the AI is not active, but if it is large, players need to stay away.
It’s easy to be unaware of these emplacements or to disregard them if they aren’t currently firing, but typically after walking in range and taking one shot, players will be slowed to such a degree that they can’t disengage. Thankfully, the Anti-Tank Pillbox will only fire on vehicles, and the Machine Gun Pillbox has a restricted field of view. They can be destroyed by tanks, artillery, and other explosives such as grenades.

3Not Realizing You Are Bleeding Out
Take A Bandage With You & Keep An Eye Out For The Blood Icon
Medics inFoxholeare absolutely essential on the frontlines, but even if players don’t intend to learn the role, they should still be aware of some basics. For example, players can be wounded as indicated by blood on their uniform. They won’t die from this and can be healed, but if the blood is spurting and there is a blood drop icon in the top left, that means they are bleeding out.
Soldiers who are bleeding out will eventually be downed upon reaching 0 HP, and after a 30-second timer, they will die if they are not picked up and subsequently revived by a medic. While players cannot heal themselves, they can stop themselves from bleeding out, and should attempt to be aware of this. To do so, they will need a single bandage equipped to the tertiary slot, they can then press 3 to get it out and hold LMB to stop the bleeding. They then have time to retreat and find a medic.

2Beware Of Friendly Fire
With Large Weapons Or Explosives, Players Can Accidentally Kill Multiple Allies At Once
Foxholeis a game that accurately depictsthe horrors of war, including the sad reality of friendly fire deaths. Without this feature, teams could artillery shell a location and have their own infantry push up and take it from the enemy far too easily.
As such, players need to be careful of their allies, no matter what they are doing. When using long rifles or machine guns and especially sniper riffles, allies can walk in the way of a shot without the shooter even realizing. This is something to bear in mind as the shooter and when walking in front of teammates. Players should be particularly careful at night when vision is limited, as they may see bullets being fired in the dark, but these could be from allies. When manning tanks or artillery, players should be even more careful. Artillery gunners should have a forward observer who can tell them to stop if allies push up into range.

Vehicles Are More Important & Roads & Doors Need To Be Accessed For Logistics
Foxholeis a game where players need to work together to win the war. Part of this means not getting in the way or leaving stuff in the way. A prime example is roads. Trucks with supplies ortanksheading toward the front are vastly more important than a random infantry soldier. If players go AFK or are walking in the way, these vehicles have the right of way and have the right to run over any infantry in the way.
The same goes for leaving vehicles in the way, especially unlocked vehicles that can’t be moved. Additionally, when equipping items at a base or going AFK momentarily, don’t block any doors to the base. Soldiers need to get to the frontlines or to their jobs. In trenches, infantry should also be wary of blocking paths, especially when under fire or if a soldier needs medical attention.
