However, that doesn’t mean original anime has disappeared entirely. With the new year just around the corner, it’s the perfect time toreflect on 2024 and highlight some of its standout original titles. So here you go, the 10 best 2024 original anime that are not adaptations of anything, ranked according to their MyAnimeList score.

AlthoughBucchigiri?!is an anime filled to the brim with quirky characters doing quirky things, the most stand-out aspect of this series has to be the animation, especially during the fight scene. The kicks, the punches, the grappling, the jumps, the runs, everything looks fluid, smooth, and highly dynamic. But then again, that is to be excited from a series made by studio MAPPA.

8Astro Note
A Wholesome Story About Cooking, Courting, and Cosmic Mysteries
Takumi Miyasaki is the new head chef for a modest inn called the Astro-sou. Astro-sou is famous in the area as an inn that offers free breakfast for its tenants. Truth be told, the main reason why a talented chef like Takumi accepts the job is because he wants to get closer to the beautiful landlady, Mira Gotokuji. What he doesn’t know, however, is the fact thatMira is actually an alienfrom Planet Widi and she came to Earth in order to look for a special “key”.
Astro Noteis a quirky anime with lots of quirky characters. From the premise to the humor, everything feels so random and absurd. And that is the charm of this series. One minute you’ll smile and let out a chuckle or two, and the next minute you scratch your head and scrunch your eyebrows in confusion. The head-banging theme song by the Japanese rock band Coldrain is just the icing on the cake.

The main idea behindMecha-Udeis quite similar toKill la Kill, which is all about sentient weapons that fight together with their hosts. In a way, you can say thatMecha-Udeis the less quirky version ofKill la Kill. Both are strange in their own way, but Mecha-Ude is a tad more serious than its predecessor. Out of every anime on this list, Negative Positive Angler is quite possibly the one story that is fully grounded in reality. In real life, a single moment or event beyond our control can lead to our downfall. Similarly, sometimes the simplest act can mark the beginning of our redemption. This isa slice-of-life story in the truest sense.Furthermore, the lessons and information about fishing are surprisingly quite interesting as well.

As strange as it may sound, it is actually a rather wholesome slice-of-life story, despite taking place in a fantasy setting. Not only that, but it has quite a healthy dose of humor as well. Together, they swiftly annihilate the alien forces in their area. That’s the day the Earth survives and Isami’s nightmare begins.
Brave Bang Bravern!offers a unique combination of realism that we often see in established mecha series likethe Gundam franchise, both in terms of the military conflict and human interaction, with the quirkiness and the over-the-top feeling of a tokusatsu series, likeUltraman. This fateful encounter changes the course of both of these girls’ lives and now they are in the process offorming a rock band together.
It’s quite interesting how the first and s.econd spot in this list belongs to a slice-of-life story that revolves around songs and dreams. The only difference is in the way they approach their premise.Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Nightaccentuates the youthfulness and energetic nature of their characters, whileGirls Band Cryfocuses more on the chance of pursuing music as a serious career path.
One thing’s for sure, both tell their stories splendidly and you won’t go wrong with either one of them. In fact, you won’t go wrong with any of the anime mentioned in this list. After all, they are the best original in 2024.
