Heroes in animedon’t need to be cut from the same goody-two-shoes cloth every single time. Sometimes, the people trying to fight to make the world a better place can still send shivers down a viewer’s spine.

From their actions to their powers, there are many ways that some popular anime heroes end up creeping viewers out. Thankfully, since they fight on the side of good, fans don’t have to worry about their favorite characters going toe-to-toe with these unnerving heroes.

Shino Aburame Naruto

It’s a shame that Shino became a comedy actinNaruto: Shippuden, completely destroying his impressive image that was built up before the time skip. During this time, Shino showed off the powers of chakra insects, although the nature of his techniques was pretty creepy.

It was hard to fathom that the bugs that Shino relied on came from his body, feeding on his chakra to form a symbiotic relationship. This revelation sent shivers down a fan’s spine and made it hard to picture oneself in his shoes, even after his character was assassinated inNaruto: Shippuden.

Panacotta Fugo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Fugo is one of the most unique charactersinJoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, appearing in a single fight and showing viewers just how monstrous his stand is. Purple Haze’s appearance is something that fans will remember, with this Stand frothing at the mouth and being hard to control for the user too.

This Stand’s power infects anyone and anything with a terminal virus that will kill them in no time. It’s a Stand so creepily powerful that Fugo had to be written out of the show to make future Stand Battles more interesting, which was an understandable course of action to take.

Shuu Tsukiyama looking slightly surprised

Tokyo Ghoulis a series that could’ve been quite popular had its anime adaptations not royally dropped the ball, but the first anime did a great job of introducing its many iconic characters. This includes Shuu Tsukiyama, a man who is dangerously obsessed with eating Kaneki and pretends to join his group to help him out under the pretense of achieving his goal.

However, over time, this character eventually develops a fondness for Kaneki and helps him out from time to time. However, his creepy obsession never subsides, to the point where he loses the will to live when Kaneki is assumed to be dead after the time skip.

Mayuri in Bleach

Bleachis a seriesfull of eccentric characters who are a joy to interact with. However, in Mayuri’s case, he sends shivers down a viewer’s spine despite battling to save Soul Society from its invaders time and time again.

This mad scientist carries out inhumane experiments, going so far as to raise the dead and use grotesque poisons to melt enemies from the inside out. His unnerving grin and creepy demeanor make him a hero that fans will support begrudgingly, making his fights quite entertaining.

Yuno Gasai from Future Diary

The beauty ofFuture Diarystems from its tantalizing premise, where players of this twisted game have a diary that can predict the future in interesting ways. The main character gets a cut-and-dry diary that accomplishes this goal in a simple manner, while Yuno’s diary embodies her psychotic personality by keeping track of Yukiteru’s movements.

For the most part, Yuno serves as a secondary protagonist who helps her partner out whenever possible, although her obsession reaches dangerous levels and forces Yukiteru to try and avoid her crazy side as much as possible. She’s one of the best and most iconic examples of the creepy yandere character who will carry out some heinous acts to prove her love to the person she’s obsessed with.

chainsaw man denji

Denji is a young man down on his luck who is willing to debase himself time and time again to earn some money and pay off his debt. However, after being betrayed, he forms a pact with Pochita and becomes the Chainsaw Devil, laying waste to anyone and anything standing in his way.

Seeing Denji go completely berserk in this form is quite scary, especially during a critical moment in the anime when he faces off against the Eternity Devil, drinking his victim’s blood to regenerate and fighting him for three days before his enemy offers his heart to stop this torture. It’s a creepy moment that shows just how unhinged the Chainsaw Devil can be if let loose.

Eren Yeager Attack On Titan-2

Forthe majority ofAttack on Titan, Eren Jaeger seems like a run-of-the-mill protagonist who can do no wrong. It’s not until after the time skip that viewers get to see a chilling side to his character that makes him one of the creepiest and most compelling anime characters of all time.

The sight of his savage face after the declaration of war on Paradis Island sends chills down the spine of viewers to this day. However, nothing comes close to the horrific genocide he enacted with the Rumbling, announcing this act in a chilling moment before eliminating 80% of human life before he was eventually stopped by his closest friends.

Guts in Berserk

Whenthe Black Swordsman is introduced inBerserkfor the first time, it’s easy to get creeped out by his bloodthirsty behavior. The way he wields his iconic sword and relishes the act of killing the Snake Lord makes him look deranged.

However, it’s not until the Golden Age arc that fans get to familiarize themselves with Guts in one of the greatest story arcs in anime history. It’s easy to see why he becomes such a creepy, bloodthirsty hero after the trauma he underwent, his mind focused solely on enacting his revenge against Griffith.
