Summary
2024 was a great year for anime fans, with many new hits released throughout this year. With so many great anime coming out, anime fans got to see many interesting female characters on screen, both new characters, as well as returning characters from old series.
In a plethora of impressive female characters, only a handful stood out as some of the very best that were showcased in anime in 2024.
10Mina Ashiro
The Third Division Captain
Kaiju No. 8was released in April 2024 and was immediately a huge hit among many anime fans. Mina Ashiro is a fan favorite from the anime, and she quite easily holds the title of most popular female character from this series. She made her appearance at the very beginning of the anime’s first episode.
Mina holds the title of Third Division Captain and has shown to be a very capable leader who can hold her ground well.
9Turbo Granny
A Major Antagonist Momo and Okarun Faced
Turbo Granny is a very interesting character fromDandadan. She is a yokai who serves as the first major antagonist Momo and Okarun face together.
At first, she shows a very cruel side of herself, but at the end of her confrontation with Momo and Okarun, her soft and caring side was revealed. Turbo Granny was revealed to comfort the souls of girls who died in horrible ways. Turbo Granny, for now, still plays a role in the storysince she is inside of a cat doll.
8Akane Tendo
A Talented Martial Artist
Ranma 1/2saw a new anime adaptation released this year. This new adaptation introduced this long beloved manga to a younger audience. One of the main characters of the series, Akane Tendo, is quite an interesting female character.
Her family had her get engaged to Ranma, and while their relationship starts with some hardships, especially with the latter’s odd gender-shifting power, she manages to carve out space for herself as a very compelling female character.
7Kana Arima
The Genius Child Actor
Oshi No Kowas an instant hit with anime fans when it dropped, so naturally, when it returned in 2024 with a new season, fans were delighted.Oshi No Kohas many interesting female characters, but one of the most popular is undoubtedly Kana Arima.
As a child, Kana had an extremely large ego from being praised as a genius child actor, but she eventually matured as her attitude started to make her lose work.
6Himiko Toga
A Lieutenant of the PLF
The latest season ofMHAwas massive and featured many amazing fights, one of them being between Himiko Toga and Ochaco Uraraka. Toga was quite a huge villain throughout theMHAseries, and definitely one of the most popular antagonists.
Her relationship with Ochaco was put at the forefront during this fight, as fans got a closer look at Toga’s mind. In the end, Toga sacrificed her own life for Ochaco, showing their special bond with this conclusion.
5Ochaco Uraraka
MHA’s Main Female Character
One cannot mention Toga without talking about Ochaco. These two had a phenomenal fight inMHA’slatest anime season. This fight definitely moved many fans, especially with its tragic conclusion for Toga.
Ochaco showed the extent of her quirkduring this fight and fought with all her might. In the end, she was saved by Toga. Toga’s death still holds weight on Ochaco’s life.
4Senjumaru Shutara
Great Weave Guard
2024 was major forBleachfans, and one of the most impressive female characters who shone in Bleachwas none other than Senjumaru. Her bankai, known as Shtatsu Karagara Shigarami no Tsuji, was revealed to be extremely powerful.
She was, however, eventually taken down by Uryu’s Antithesis, an extremely broken ability. Nevertheless, her powers were quite impressive to witness.
3Frieren
A Powerful Elven Mage
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, has been one of the most popular new anime.The main character, Frieren, is quite the beloved character, and is one of many amazing female characters the series has to offer.
Friren’s quest and story make her a very compelling character, and her powers make her quite a fearsome foe for anyone in the anime.
2Momo Ayase
Dandadan’s Main Female Character
Momo Ayase is the main character of the newest hit animeDandadan.Dandadanhas been a fan favorite anime since its debut this year, and actually has quite a few interesting female characters, Momo being one of them.
Momo, as the main character, has many moments in the anime, especially with her incredible supernatural powers.
1Maomao
The Talented Apothecary
Maomao is the main character ofThe Apothecary Diaries. On a fateful day, she was captured and forced to work in the imperial palace.Maomao would, however, quickly show her prowessas not only a talented apothecary, but quite a good investigator who solves various mysteries that unfold at the imperial place.
Her relationship with Jinshi is also one of the most interesting parts of the anime, and her character keeps fans hooked as they discover the truth about her parents and childhood.
