Summary
The Mythical Island expansion ofPokemon Pocketintroduced three new Supporter cards: Leaf, Blue, and Budding Expeditioner. With these additions, the game’s Supporter card roster now features eleven characters.
The addition of Blue and Leaf in the same expansion can’t be an accident. These two characters are long-time rivals inPokemonlore, with Leaf finally defeating Blue in the final battle during the Indigo League Championship. Now, they’re facing off once again inPokemon Pocket, this time as Supporter cards vying for a bigger role in the metagame. This raises an inevitable question: Which one is the best? Or, more accurately, which is more likely to become a staple in the META? Here’s a ranking to help answer that.

3Budding Expeditioner
Neat, but Niche
Players are calling Budding Expeditioner “Koga for Mew ex,” which simplifies what this Supporter card does. She lets you return Mew ex to your hand and heal it, making her utility pretty niche and specific.
Since Mew ex’s main attack, Genome Hacking, is a Colorless move, it appears in many decks. As a result, you’ll see plenty of Budding Expeditioners, too, thanks to their strong synergy. However, Budding Expeditioner is just one META-shaking card away from being pushed out of the metagame, which is why she ranks as the least favorable Supporter card inthe Mythical Island expansion. If only she could work with more Psychic-Type cards, she’d likely top the list.

2Blue
The Underdog Supporter
Blue wasn’t well-received in thePokemon Pocketcommunity when he was released. For many players, he’s still seen as an unnecessary addition and more of a burden in decks thana useful Supporter. However, players need to recognize that Blue is a doomsday card—a Supporter who can turn the tide of a match on rare but crucial occasions.
Imagine this: You’re two turns away from Evolving or building up your main damage dealer on the Bench, while your opponent can one-shot your Active Pokemon and force you to play an unprepared one they can also knock out. But then you play Blue, buying just enough time for your Active Pokemon to survive and complete your build-up strategy. In the next round, you take out your opponent’s Active Pokemon and win. That’s the critical difference Blue can make.

1Leaf
The True Champion of Mythical Island Supporters
Just like inPokemonlore, Leaf finally defeats Blue, but inPokemon Pocket, she does so by offering a much better and more universal utility: making two-Energy Retreats free. Leaf isthe best Supporter card in the Mythical Islandexpansionbecause she’s a plug-and-play card for many decks, especiallyCharizard ex decks, where Moltres ex might be in the Active Spot. That’s when Leaf steps in, Benching Moltres for free and letting the built-up Charizard ex take its place.
Leaf takes the championship from Blue for one simple reason: it’s not a “doomsday” card. Blue can be a game-changer in rare situations where keeping the Active Pokemon alive for one more round is crucial, but those moments don’t happen often, and Blue won’t always get the chance to shine. In contrast, Leaf is useful in most matches, especially in decks with Pokemon that require two Energy to Retreat—something that comes up frequently.
