Summary

Bosch: Legacyis being ushered out the door at Amazon, after over a decade of highly successful Harry Bosch crime stories. It isn’t the only long-running ratings hit to be canceled this year, after CBS ditchedBlue Bloodsafter 14 seasons. The difference betweenBlue BloodsandBosch: Legacyis that, unlike Amazon, CBS did agree to at least give the show a proper ending, rather than end it abruptly.

The SaveBosch: Legacypetitionhas been asking Amazon to give the creative team a chance to end the story properly. So far, the pleas have fallen on deaf ears, but as the voices get louder, it’ll be harder for Amazon to ignore what their paying customers are asking for.If CBS can recognize the value in ending one of its biggest ever shows in the proper way, surely Amazon can do the same.

Blue Bloods Was Canceled But The Cast Fought For A Proper Ending And They Got One

Blue Bloods first aired on CBS back in 2010, and it became a huge hit for the network, and has consistently pulled in huge ratings throughout its staggering 14-season run. Fans were shocked to hear thatCBS were cancelingBlue Bloods, despite its continued success, and the original plan was for the final season to consist of 10 episodes, and air in Spring 2024. However,Blue Bloodslead actor, Tom Selleck stepped in to try and convince CBS that they were making a huge mistake in ending the show abruptly.Selleck eventually managed to persuade CBS to split the final season into two segments, and eight final episodes aired in the fall of 2024 to give the show a proper ending. In an interview withVariety, Selleck said:

I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, do 10 episodes a year. But I’m not the boss. Everybody wanted to come back. And I think with this cast, it would have been a gift for the audience. I don’t make those decisions. I’m prepared to celebrate and commemorate this show, but I’m still getting used to it.

Tom Selleck wasn’t the only member of the cast fighting for the show, with Donnie Wahlberg opening up in an interview withFox News Digitalafter theBlue Bloodsfinale aired on December 12:

We tried to keep the show going. We tried to help the show carry on, and we couldn’t. We couldn’t do it. You know, we did everything we could, everything in our power, to have the show carry on.

Save Bosch: Legacy Key Facts

The fans ofBlue Bloodshave Tom Selleck to thank for giving them a chance to say farewell to their favorite characters in a fitting way.CBS didn’t quite backtrack on their decision to end the show, but they did give the creative team eight more episodes to wrap up the story. In the same interview with Variety, Selleck said:

The show deserved a legacy we’re proud of.

‘Legacy matters’, as Harry Bosch once ironically stated in theAmazon Freeveeoriginal series,Bosch: Legacy, and the title of Harry Bosch’s spin-off show says it all, butlegacy doesn’t mean anything to Amazon. The streaming giantcanceledBosch: Legacyafter filming had wrapped on season 3, meaning the creative team weren’t given the chance to end the show properly, in stark contrast toBlue Bloods. Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg have been very vocal about their feelings aboutBlue Bloodscoming to an end. However, the cast and crew ofBosch: Legacyhave been publicly silent about how they really feel aboutHarry Bosch’s abrupt end. It’s an open secret in Hollywood that none of the cast and crew wantedBosch: Legacyto end, and especially not in this way.

It sounds like Amazon are essentially usingtheBallardspin-offseries as leverage to keep the creative team from speaking the truth. The majority ofBosch: Legacy’s cast and crew are employed by Amazon on the upcoming spin-off, and they very much need to be ‘in work’, withthe state of the Hollywood industryat the moment. Note to Amazon: loose lips sink ships! Did they really think people wouldn’t speak out?Silence is at the top of Amazon’s Christmas wish list this year, but fortunately, America was built on freedom of speech, and the ‘turkeys’ are coming home to roost.Of course, Amazon could turn it all around and give the fans and the creative team what they really want for Christmas: a proper end toBosch: Legacy.
