Call of Duty: Warzoneplayers are once again reminiscing over the days of Verdansk, with one weapon in particular being remembered fondly: the RPG. While players can still make use ofBlack Ops 6’s RPG inCall of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play Battle Royale title has evolved massively since its original release back in 2019, with players eager to see the shooter return to its former glory.
With newCall of Dutytitles released annually,Warzonehas transformed tremendously over the years, with its latest integration being with Treyarch Studios’Black Ops 6. Unfortunately, manyCall of Dutyplayers have been left disappointed with the evolution of the Battle Royale title, with a large portion of the community believingWarzonewas at its peak in the days of Verdansk and 2019’sModern Warfarereboot. These days,Warzonehas a serious cheating problem, causing more players to reminisce over better times.

Call of Duty: Warzone Fans Reminisce Over the OG RPG
In a new post on theCall of Duty: Warzonesubreddit, user ProNoobCombo posted a nostalgic clip of the RPG fromWarzone’sModern Warfareera, calling it “the squad wiper.” This powerful rocket-propelled gun was not to be messed with in the originalWarzone, as a single rocket was enough to take out a full team riding together in a single vehicle. The clip posted shows the user taking out two different teams with a couple of perfectly timed RPGs as they drove past in a vehicle. Other players were quick to note that this is why there should always be a trophy system placed on top of the vehicle to prevent sudden RPG deaths.
While the days of the originalWarzoneare long behind us, Activision has confirmed that the game’s original map will be returning later this year. As part of the yearly Call of Duty: Next event, Activision revealed thatVerdansk would be returning toWarzonein Spring 2025. The announcement came after months of rumors and leaks, with some reports suggesting that the fan-favorite map was originally supposed to return before the end of 2024. For reasons unknown,Black Ops 6’sWarzoneintegration did not come with a new large-scale map and instead brought with it a new Resurgence map known as Area-99.
Black Ops 6got off to a massive start back in October, but recent data shows thatCall of Duty’s player count has begun to dwindlequite drastically. While the data only shows the player count of Steam users, it is the biggest drop in the game’s player count since 2022. The dip is unlikely to affectCall of Dutylong-term, as there is still an abundance of other players across platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Battle.net, but it does show that the community is fed up with the hackers and performance issues.
