Capcom recently announced the revivals of two dormant IPs at The Game Awards 2024 earlier this month. One of these wasa new trailer forOnimusha Way of the Sword, a brand-new title in Capcom’s classicOnimushaseries, a dark fantasy game that takes place in the Kyoto period, which is set to release in 2026. The other game is anOkamisequel, with Hideki Kamiya once again at the helm, though a release date hasn’t been set yet for it.

In a post following these announcements at TGA 2024, Capcom revealed its plans to continue reviving its dormant IPs. It says that, in addition to regularly releasing new major titles annually, Capcom will focus on “re-activating” dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently. This includes working to further enhance the company’s corporate value by leveraging the publisher’s rich library of content,reviving past Capcom IPsin the same style as the aforementionedOkamiandOnimushasequels.
There are severalIPs that many fans want to see Capcom return to. Based on surveys from earlier this year, most fans want to seeDino Crisisreturn, a survival horror game based around dinosaurs in a similar style to Capcom’s ownResident Evil. Other IPs include the classic platformer/shooter franchiseMega Man, which was the face of Capcom back in the day before the publisher shifted gears.Darkstalkers,Breath of Fire, and theVs. Capcomseries were also in the top 10 in overall votes of franchises that fans wanted to see a new title for.
Another survey released after the release of theDead Rising Deluxe Remasterindicates thataDead Rising 2remaster is possibly already in the works. Since Capcom expressed its wholehearted commitment to creating new titles and reviving older franchises, along with Kamiya’s return as part of Clovers, fans are hoping that the publisher can bring back some of the studio’s older games, likeGod HandandViewtiful Joe.
