Citlali, the great shaman of the Masters of the Night-Wind—fondly referred to as “Granny” by many—is one of the most anticipated support characters from the Natlan region inGenshin Impact. As a support and sub-DPS, she offers elemental reaction utility and shielding capabilities that resemble Layla’s in functionality, making her a versatile addition to many team compositions. However, what truly sets her apart is her passive ability, which decreases Hydro and Pyro resistance of enemies affected by Melt or Freeze reactions, making her especially valuable in reaction-heavy teams.
Citlali thrives best in Melt or Freeze-oriented teams where her resistance-shredding abilities can elevate the damage output of her teammates. This makesher an ideal supportfor main DPS or sub-DPS characters who deal significant Pyro or Hydro damage or rely on elemental reactions for high damage multipliers. That said, her flexible support kit allows her to seamlessly fit into various team compositions, even beyond her primary synergy focus, making her a versatile option for players looking to maximize the potential of their roster. Below are some of the best team compositions that utilize Citlali’s unique abilities, highlighting different playstyles and synergies.

Citlali + Mavuika + Xilonen + Bennett
Mavuika and Citlali debut together in Genshin Impact’s version 5.3, offering an exciting opportunity to explore their synergy in elemental reaction-based teams. Mavuika’s Charged Attack-heavy playstyle pairs perfectly with Citlali’s consistent Cryo application, making Melt reactions a key component of their combined damage potential. Citlali’s Hydro and Pyro resistance shred further amplifies this synergy, enhancing Mavuika’s damage output and making the pair a formidable duo.
This synergy is heightened by Mavuika’s Fighting Spirit mechanic, which relies on other Natlan characters consuming Nightsoul points to build stacks. Citlali and Xilonen are excellent partners in this regard, with Xilonen providing further Pyro resistance shred, healing, and further buffs through her preferred artifact sets. Rounding out the team with Bennett, who boosts ATK and provides Pyro Resonance for even more ATK. Together, this team showcases the strength and versatility of Mavuika and Citlali, creating a well-rounded composition for players to enjoy - while also being one of the best team compositions for both Mavuika and Citlali.

Citlali + Neuvillette + Furina + Charlotte
Neuvillette, widely regarded as one of the best Hydro main-DPS characters in Genshin Impact, benefits greatly from Citlali despite his usual independence from reactions like Freeze to achieve high damage numbers. While Neuvillette doesn’t rely on Freeze for his core damage output, Citlali’s ability to enable Freeze reactions proves valuable by reducing enemy Hydro RES, further amplifying Neuvillette’s and Furina’s damage potential. This synergy allows both characters to maximize their impact, making Citlali a highly beneficial support for Neuvillette in reaction-based team compositions.
Moreover, Neuvillette’s unique HP Drain and Gain mechanicpairs seamlessly with Furina’s Fanfare stacking, especially when combined with Charlotte’s healing capabilities. This interaction enhances Furina’s Elemental Burst effect, buffing the entire team’s performance. While Citlali may not be as effective with Cryo carry characters like Ayaka or Wriothesley, who rely more directly on Freeze, her role in this team composition highlights her utility in elevating Neuvillette and Furina. As of version 5.3, this Freeze composition is one of the most optimized options for maximizing this reaction’s potential. Alternatively to Charlotte, players may also consider other options like Diona if they wish to do so, or even Hydro characters like Mona or Kokomi can work.

Citlali + Chasca + Furina + Bennett
Chasca, often considered a unique Rainbow DPS from Natlan, has struggled with versatility due to her specific elemental requirements for optimal team setups. However,as an Anemo characterwith the ability to infuse her bullets with other elements, in this case Pyro and Hydro, she can pair exceptionally well with Citlali. Citlali’s capacity to reduce enemy Pyro and Hydro resistance amplifies Chasca’s damage potential, making her an invaluable support unit in this team composition.
While Chasca can technically slot in any Pyro or Hydro support unit, the most effective combination remains Furina and Bennett. Furina’s sub-DPS potential and buffs synergize well with Chasca, while Bennett’s ATK boost will further enhance her damage output. Together, this team creates a powerful and balanced composition, much like setups involving Mavuika or Neuvillette, but uniquely tailored to Chasca’s rainbow-elemental playstyle, which can enable multiple reactions, consisting ofMelt, Vaporize and Freeze, all in one go.

Citlali + Arlecchino + Rosaria + Kazuha
Mavuika isn’t theonly Pyro main DPSwho pairs well with Citlali; Arlecchino is another excellent candidate. Arlecchino’s Melt team composition operates similarly to Mavuika’s, but since Arlecchino relies more on Normal Attacks than Charged Attacks, she benefits greatly fromhaving two Cryo charactersto ensure consistent Cryo application. Among the options, Rosaria stands out as a solid choice, offering a Crit Rate buff alongside steady Cryo application, which synergizes well with Arlecchino’s damage output.
For the final team slot, players have some flexibility, but Kazuha is an optimal choice. His ability to swirl Cryo and Pyro while buffing elemental damage significantly enhances Arlecchino’s overall performance. This setup balances reaction uptime, elemental buffs, and support, creating a formidable Melt-focused team for Arlecchino. For those that do not have access to Kazuha, using other Anemo units like Venti or Sucrose is still quite viable, or players could also opt-in for Xilonen for a similar buff amount to Kazuha if they prefer to do so.

Citlali + Hu Tao + Yelan + Lan Yan
Hu Tao mains will find Citlali to be a valuable addition to their team, particularly in a Liyue-themed composition featuring characters from the 5.3 banners. This team leverages Freeze-Melt and Vaporize reactions, capitalizing on the synergy between Hu Tao and Yelan’s elemental applications. Both characters, being heavily damage-oriented, benefit significantly from Citlali’s ability to reduce Hydro and Pyro resistance in enemies affected by Melt or Freeze. This makes the team even more efficient in generating powerful elemental reactions.
For the fourth slot, players can choose from a variety of supportive Anemo characters. While Venti, Sucrose, and Kazuha are all strong options for crowd control and elemental damage buffs, this setup also allows the inclusion of Lan Yan, another new character introduced in 5.3. As a shielder and support, Lan Yan provides defensive utility while enhancing the team’s overall performance. Considering that Hu Tao benefits from shielders while best not paired with a healer, having 2 shielders instead will be quite beneficial to keep her HP low for high DMG as well. Players can also consider Xingqui instead of Yelan to make the team less premium-character oriented.
