Summary

As a looter-shooter game,Destiny 2offers several activities for players to farm items and weapons as they please. This ranges from regular Strikes and Gambit or Crucible matches all the way to Raids and Dungeons, which are designed to be endgame experiences for well-equipped players. Both Raids and Dungeons offer armor and guns as their rewards, and the weapons tend to be some of the strongest in the game, as proven byDestiny 2’s VS Chill Inhibitor from Vesper’s Host. While Raids are geared toward crafting by granting red-border weapons, Dungeon guns are typically only enhanceable, and this can be a problem given drop rates and the loot pool. However, there is one clear way forDestiny 2to make Dungeons much better.

It seems unlikely that craftable weapons will ever be added to Dungeons after Bungie’s recent post about futureDestiny 2plans, which stated that Episode 3’s weapons won’t be craftable. This would have been a great solution to the limited drops and the bloated loot pool from Dungeons, which can be a growing pain to farm due to players also having to deal with random rolls on each weapon they get. As such, the next best thing would be to not only guarantee two drops per Dungeon encounter, but at least one weapon among them.

Destiny 2 Would Be Shooting Itself in The Foot Without Better Dungeon Loot

Dungeon encounters inDestiny 2typically have a loot pool of five or six possible items, often with two or three armor pieces and two or three guns. On top of that, not all those items drop from every encounter, but rather they are divided between the various encounters or bosses within the Dungeon. This means that it’s impossible to have all Dungeon drops unlocked after even four or five runs, let alone find the god rolls for each desired weapon.

WithDestiny 2’s armor overhaul in Frontiers, Dungeon armor may also be affected and become much more desirable than it is now, meaning that players will have to farm for the longest time before they get everything they want from a given Dungeon. However, a huge change to Dungeons' drops may be implemented to address all these issues, and it would be to make each boss or encounter drop two items. The difference from double loot would be that these items would have forced categories, and the best way to handle it would be to either make the loot guaranteed to be split into a weapon and an armor piece, or at least guarantee one weapon and then a second random item.

Guaranteed Weapons Would Make Destiny 2’s Dungeon Worth Farming

This approach would very much address players' feedback, especially so afterDestiny 2’s double loot weeks in Vesper’s Hostas a gesture from Bungie to compensate for the time wasted farming VS Chill Inhibitor during the perk weighting controversy. Back then, many players were vocal about how double loot from Dungeons is what makes them worth farming due to their massive loot pool and minuscule chances of getting specific rolls. Instead of permanent double loot, which could also be a solution, having one guaranteed weapon and a second drop per encounter would be more than enough.

Theoretically, there is a chance that even with double loot active but no guaranteed weapons, one may end a run with no weapons at all. Since these guns are not craftable and may never be, giving one guaranteed weapon (and possibly a guaranteed armor piece) for each encounter would kill two birds with one stone, asallDestiny 2Dungeonswould immediately be worth farming - much more than they are right now, anyway.

Destiny 2’s Heresyis coming out early next year, and it’s hard to think that Bungie will make this change before then, if at all, considering all the game’s current more pressing issues. However, the launch of Frontiers would be a great time to add this system to Dungeons, making them more desirable for players to spend time in.
