Doomwas a huge hit when it released back in the 1990s, and while the series has continued to evolve, the original game has become legendary in its own right. Part of the reason for this is the ever-increasing list of devices, platforms, and even appliances thatDoomhas been made playable on. Some seem to see any device as a potential challenge, puttingDoomon a DSLR camera, a pregnancy test, and evenDoomwithinDoom.
Now, a developer has turnedDoominto a CAPTCHA test. Developer Guillermo Rauch has released an app that lets users clear a challenge inDoomas a CAPTCHA test. The app drops players into a miniatureDoomlevel on Nightmare mode. Players can move forward, backward, left, and right, and fire their gun with the space bar. In order to clear the CAPTCHA, players have to successfully kill three enemies without getting killed themselves. While CAPTCHA tests have developed a reputation for being surprisingly difficult to complete, this may be one of the toughest to exist yet.
Players Shouldn’t Expect Official Doom CAPTCHA Anytime Soon
While CAPTCHA tests are everywhere, helping to determine whether a website is being accessed by a real person or a bot, it’s extremely unlikely that this version of aCAPTCHAwill ever be used as anything other than a fun test. Not only is it way too difficult for the average user to clear, but it uses official assets that it would need legal permission to properly utilize. Nonetheless, it’s a hilarious addition to the ever-burgeoning list of playable platforms forDoom.
Other than its status as one of the early FPS games to really make waves, part of the reasonDoomkeeps showing up randomly is because the game has very low technical requirements to run or to be displayed. However, it’s not the only game to gain this sort of odd fascination from the gaming community at large. Another game has received similar attention despite releasing much later, asSkyrimhas been viewable on a pregnancy test, as well as being officially released for Alexa. On the other hand of the spectrum, the old meme “Can it runCrysis?” poked fun at the fact that the game was incredibly resource-demanding when it released, though its meme status has largely faded as console and PC capabilities have advanced.
