The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 10, “Ocean”, now streaming onCrunchyroll.

Summary

Dragon Ball DAIMAhas been a wild ride as Goku and friends travel through the Demon Realm, and the series continues to fill many gaps inDragon Balllore along the way. Fans have learned much about the Glinds, the Supreme Kai race, but additional details about the very origins of their universe are slowly providing clarity for one mysterious connection. The Supreme Kai and God of Destruction in each universe are uniquely linked, and the reason for that is slowly coming to light inDragon Ball DAIMA.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, and subsequentlyDragon Ball Super, introduced fans to God of Destruction Beerus and his angel companion Whis. AsDragon Ball Superprogressed into the Future Trunks saga that later featuredGoku Black and Zamasu, one extremely secretive link was revealed. If every Supreme Kai in a specific universe were to die, that universe’s God of Destruction would also perish. Linking their lives in this way aims to preserve balance in each universe, butDragon Ball DAIMAhas provided some critical context about the Demon Realm.

Zamasu

The Supreme Kai was first met inDragon Ball Zduring the beginning of the Majin Buu Saga, but little else was known about these mysterious deities untilDragon Ball DAIMA. The Supreme Kai of Universe 7, also known as Shin, revealed that his race is known as the Glinds. Birthed from the Glind Trees in the Second Demon World, the race was actually selected at the creation of the multiverse.Dragon Ball DAIMAEpisode 10, “Ocean”, included a lore drop from Shin, whose original Glind name of Nahare was revealed earlier in the series, as he explained to the group that there was once a “good Supreme Demon King.”

Long before the time ofDragon Ball, that good ruler ordered Super Majin Rymus to create the universes. After doing so, Rymus chose the Glinds to become Supreme Kais and watch over each universe. The cruel Supreme Demon King Abura, Dabura’s predecessor, later caused many like the Glinds and Namekians to seek refuge and flee the Demon Realm. While there’s no mention in this origin story of the Gods of Destruction or eventhe Omni-King Grand Zeno, these new details fromDAIMAfit nicely into the existing puzzle ofDragon Balllore. While Super Majin Rymus may have created the multiverse, the Omni-King has ruled and maintained it for a very long time.

Whis mentions during the Future Trunks Saga ofSuperthat there used to be 18 universes, but Zeno destroyed six of them. Since the Gods of Destruction aren’t mentioned by Shin, it’s very likely that they were established independent ofthe Demon Realm. This brings to mind one of the biggest unknowns remaining in the cosmic hierarchy ofDragon Ball, the Angel Realm. The Grand Minister that serves and guides the Omni-King is the father of all angels, and Whis mentions having a home planet believed to be in the Angel Realm.

No other details about the Angel Realm are clear, but this new multiverse origin story sends some strong implications. It appears that having angels train and choose eachgod of destructionwas part of the Omni-King maintaining balance. While the Supreme Kais are divine beings that foster creation and are linked to the Demon Realm, the inhabitants of the Angel Realm foster divine beings with the mandate of destruction. This would perfectly explain why Beerus and Supreme Kai, as well as all Supreme Kais and Gods of Destruction, have this life-link that keeps either from existing without a counterpart. There may still be many questions when the series concludes, but this is one that it appearsDragon Ball DAIMAhas answered.
