Summary
Quick Links
Dragon Ball Daimais no stranger to introducing new lore and details about already existing characters that we didn’t know about. After all, most of them are related to the Tamagami’s purpose, the Demon Realm’s natives, and the revelation that most alien species we are familiar with used to be natives to the Demon Realm in one of three Demon Worlds. The revelation that Shin, the Supreme Kai of Universe 7, is related to two of the antagonists, despite the fact that Shin is a Kai, is a surprise for this reason.
An even bigger surprise is that Shin is a Supreme Kai, but his origins are different from what we’re used to inDragon Ball. All the same, the origins of Shin are explained throughout the story of the latest anime, and there are a couple of explanations as to what Kai is, and who he is supposed to be.

The Glind And Their Creation
The Beginnings of the Kai’s
To begin the origins of Shin and his kind, we must begin with the introduction to their home realm, as well as the new home they made for themselves in the world outside the Demon Realm. The Second Demon World is where the Glind come from, where they are all born from the Glind Tree, somewhat like apples to an orchard tree, and they all havevarying degrees of connection to the Demon Realm. It is also this same world that they shared with the Namekians before they moved to space and the mortal world, and at some point both the Glind and Namekians left the Second Demon World and into their respective home planets. Shin, and Kibito for that matter, are both called Kai’s in the new world, but they are born the same way, hanging on a Glind Tree in the Second Demon World, with varying degrees of status once they moved to the mortal realm.
Of course, Shin isn’t the only Glind who became the Supreme Kai, or even the only Kai. The Four Kai’s that oversee the four directions, including King Kai, are all Glind’s born from their birth trees on the planet that will be known as the Sacred World of the Kai’s. The important detail to remember, however, is that while all the Kai’s have their titles and names when they move to the Mortal Realm. Shin’s real name, for example, is Nahare. He was given a name from the beginning of his life, and is connected to Dr. Arinsu and Degesu, two Glind relativeswho are the antagonists ofDragon Ball Daima. This little detail might be important for the rest of the story, especially once we start to learn more about the connection between Shin and the two antagonists working with Demon King Gomah.
Shin’s Connection To The Demon Realm
The Potential Conflict
While there isn’t much detail about how Shin grew up in the Demon Realm yet, there are a lot of details that suddenly make the world ofDragon Ballbigger than average, and Shin’s connection to the Demon Realm alone might explain some of his kinds of decisions overall. After all, as Supreme Kai, Shin is supposed to manifest the creation of planets and give guidance to mortals, but this was only after his kind left the Demon Realm. Degesu and Arinsu don’t even have the faintest sense of responsibility other than their own kind and Demon World, so it bears mentioning that their reactions andactions taken against the Z-Warriorswere preventative, if not also invasive. After all, the idea that these two would work alongside Shin is not entirely plausible because of their actions of stealing Dende and trying to weaken the Z-Fighters for fear of them being a threat. However, what is this related to Shin’s connection with the Demon Realm and potential conflict?
To put it quite simply, Arinsu wants to use the Demon Realm Dragon Balls for herself, while Degesu is working loyally with Gomah while keeping an eye on the Z-Warriors. However, Shin is the only one of the three Glind that are trying to save Dende from their clutches, as well as putting things back to normal in this adventure. There is a potential conflict between family and the fact that Degesu and Arinsu most likely have no complete or strong ties to Shin as their relative.
That isn’t entirely confirmed as of right now, but there is some merit in understanding the potential conflict between family members of the same world. Shin’s origins are revealed, and it seems that he knows a lot more about the Demon Realm than he does about the world in which he is Supreme Kai. However, this works to its advantage. The beauty of how the worldDragon Ball Daimapresents itselfallows the fans to feel connectedand a lot more engaged with something mystical and whimsical that we haven’t gotten ever since the early days ofDragon Ball.Either way, Shin’s origins are a lot more detailed than what we have, but hopefully we will get more information in the future ofDragon Ball Daima.
