Emily Watson and Olivia Williams play two morally ambiguous sisters running what is essentially a cult. As it turns out, Watson and Williams were present for a virtual press conference delivering the big news about the HBO Max series.
Dune: Prophecy Gets A Second Season
The series will return for a second season, showrunner Alison Schapker announced at the press conference Thursday, according to theHollywood Reporter. The renewal comes a few days before the show’s first season finale, debuting Dec. 22 on HBO Max. The announcement might have come right before the season finale, but it appears that HBO Max has been convinced it should have at least made sure to tell people the show was going on, even if it knew for quite a while Season 2 was getting the go ahead considering the series premiere has now topped more than 15 million viewers according to the streamer. Even though official numbers haven’t been revealed for the following episodes, the quick trigger pull on a renewal would seem to indicate that those kinds of numbers continued.
One of the reasonsDune: Prophecymight be so popular is because the show is used tofill in details that the Denis Villeneuve moviescould never talk about or explain in any real way because there simply wasn’t time. One instance of this is when the show seems to have established the Sardaukar, an essential element for theDuneuniverse.

However, in the press conference announcing a second season, one of the details that was noticeably absent was just when a Season 2 might air. There is some reason to believe it could hit HBO Max around the same time of year as Season 1. However, these kinds of shows also have a habit of taking a year off between seasons for various reasons. Actors and directors and writers schedules can make it hard to go right back into production in this day and age.
