The firstSplitgatemade quite a name for itself upon its 2019 debut by offering a throwback arena shooter with an innovative, modern twist. By merging gameplay elements fromHaloandPortal,Splitgatefilled a niche that the gaming world didn’t even know it had, andSplitgate 2looks to be upping the ante in just about every way imaginable.
Splitgate 2is set to hit PC and consoles in 2025, and its recent gameplay trailer at The Game Awards did a great job of teasing some of the sequel’s new features. Along with the ability to open up portals at any time,Splitgate 2will offer players an array of new powers. These new powers are tied directly to the game’s faction system, which will see players choose from one of three distinct classes.

Every Splitgate 2 Faction Explained
Sabrask
A band of elite warriors that use brute force and overwhelming strength to subdue opponents, the Sabrask fight to keep their home colony of Mars safe. Though not as agile as some of their opponents, the Sabrask are all about charging the objective and defending it at all costs.
With their Smart Wall, the Sabrask are able to hold their own against any opponent and remain on the frontlines for longer. InSplitgate 2’s 4v4 structure, there should always be at least one Sabrask on the team, prepared to secure the point and hold it.

Meridian
Hailing from the hazardous planet of Venus, the Meridian are some of the finest thinkers inthe Milky Way. After using an array of high-tech gadgets to sustain life on their home planet, the Meridian turned their attention to pushing the boundaries of science and reality. The Meridian may not be as fast as the Aeros or as strong as the Sabrask, but their technological prowess and advanced equipment make them a necessary inclusion for any team.
TheMeridian’s Hypersight abilitycan be incredibly useful in a variety of scenarios, with it allowing the player and their entire team to see enemies through walls. A Meridian team member can be the glue that holds the squad together, especially if they use their Health Grenades effectively.

Aeros
After discoveringportal technology, Earth has become a paradise for all who live there. The thriving culture of Earth has given rise to a group of competitors named Aeros, who value style above all else.
While the Sabrask rely on their strength and the Meridian rely on their advanced tech and smarts, the Aeros rely on sheer skill. Playing as an Aeros will require players to use all of the game’s mechanics effectively to succeed.

Back in August, 1047 Games' CEO and Co-founder,Ian Proulx spoke with Insider Gaming’s Tom Hendersonabout the possibility ofSplitgate 2getting more factions after launch. Proulx stated the studio has a “community first” approach, so if fans express the desire for more factions after launch, the team will consider adding more, though it wants to avoid the “bloat” of having too many.
