Warhammer 40k: Darktideis a first-person shooter developed and published by Swedish studio Fatshark. Although it was originally announced during the July 2020 Xbox Series X/S showcase, it missed Microsoft’s current-gen console at launch, having initially debuted as a PC exclusive in November 2022. TheXbox Series X/S version ofWarhammer 40k: Darktideeventually arrivedin October 2023. A year later, Fatshark announced that its FPS would also be coming to the PS5.
The Swedish developer-publisher has now made good on that promise, with thePS5 port ofWarhammer 40k: Darktideofficially launching on December 3. The base version of the game retails for $39.99. There’s also the $59.99 Imperial Edition, which includes some bonus class outfits, weapon skins, a unique body tattoo, and an extra piece of headgear. This higher-tier version ofWarhammer 40k: Darktideeven came with a six-day early access period, which kicked off on November 27.
Early Player Impressions of Warhammer 40k: Darktide PS5 Port Are Positive
Looking at thegame’s PS Store page, early player impressions of theWarhammer 40k: DarktidePS5 version are predominantly positive. This is suggested by its 4.48-star global player rating, based on 485 reviews shared within the first 48 hours of the shooter’s launch. 80% of all of its PS Store reviewers rated the game with five stars, while 9% gave it the lowest, one-star score.
These early impressions seem to largely match theWarhammer 40k: Darktidereviewson Steam, where the game sits at over 85,000 “Mostly Positive” ratings as of early December 2024. They are also notably better than the game’s Xbox Store reviews, which presently have an average of 3.4 stars, based on approximately 4,200 player impressions. Many early complaints directed at the original version ofDarktideconcerned its performance, which was initially problematic. For context, this is a game where players can find themselves fighting over a hundred enemies at once, so things can get quite hectic and taxing on hardware. But as far as the PS5 version ofDarktidegoes, early player impressions suggest that it runs smoothly, especially in Performance mode, which targets 60 frames per second.
