Summary
Unfortunately forElden Ringfans looking forward toElden Ring: Nightreignco-op, the new game will not have cross-platform support.Elden Ring: Nightreignwas one of the most surprising announcements at The Game Awards 2024. Its reveal trailer left many fans incredibly excited, especially as it was emphasized that the new game was a co-op-focused experience.
SinceElden Ring: Nightreign’s debut at The Game Awards, some disappointing revelations have come about in regard to its co-op features. Now yet another unfortunate restriction has been confirmed forElden Ring: Nightreignco-op, which may leave some fans of the franchise frustrated, to say the least.

In an interview with IGN, FromSoftware confirmed thatElden Ring: Nightreignwill not have crossplay. Similar to howElden Ringco-op works, those on PS4 will be able to play with PS5 gamers and those on Xbox One will be able to play with those on Xbox Series X/S consoles, but PlayStation and Xbox gamers can’t play with each other. Likewise, PC gamers can only play with other PC gamers. It’s unclear exactly why this decision was made, especially since co-op seems to be a much bigger focus forElden Ring: Nightreignthan the base game.
Does Elden Ring: Nightreign Have Crossplay?
The lack of crossplay isn’t the only thing holding backElden Ring: Nightreign’s co-op experience. It was also confirmed thatElden Ring: Nightreignco-op will not allow duos. Those that want to play co-op must play in groups of three. There is an option for a solo mode with balance changes made with that in mind, but the team decided not to do the same for those that may want to play in a duo. It was indicated that playing in duos made the game feel too “overwhelming” and “busy,” but it’s unclear why it still couldn’t have been balanced in a way similar to the solo mode.
It will definitely be interesting to see how fans react to these co-op restrictions whenElden Ring: Nightreignlaunches in 2025. A specific release date for the highly-anticipated game is not yet available, but we do know that fans will have the chance to play it sooner rather than later. FromSoftware will be hosting anElden Ring: Nightreignnetwork testin February, with sign-ups opening on January 10. The scope of this network test has not been revealed, but one has to imagine that the game’s co-op functionality will be the main focus.
