Summary
AStardew Valleyplayer has shared an amusing bug that madeSebastianglide backwards, making him look like he was casually moonwalking. The oddStardew Valleymoment doesn’t seem to have any negative impact on gameplay, but is certainly funny to watch.
Stardew Valley’s NPCs have schedulesthat dictate what they do at any given moment of the day. Depending on the character, an NPC may go to work, visit the doctor, spend some time in the saloon, and so on. One of Sebastian’s regular activities is smoking by the lake near his childhood home, but things didn’t work quite as expected when this player happened to be in the neighborhood at the exact right time.

Reddit user andStardew Valleyfan matmartins95 shared a brief video demonstrating a moment when they came across Sebastian near his residence. The video seems to have been taken atusual time that Sebastian would head back to his room, but something went wrong with the animation. Instead of putting the cigarette out and walking home, Sebastian is instead continuing to smoke while gliding backwards, all the way up until he heads into the front door and disappears from view.
What Went Wrong with Sebastian in Stardew Valley?
While amusing, there’s a simple explanation for what’s going on in this moment. For some reason, the game didn’t properly change Sebastian’s sprite to show the correct animation of him walking and facing the direction he’s going in. Since Sebastian only faces the water while smoking at night, it simply froze him on that particular animation cycle while he was supposed to be walking. It’s not exactly clear why the correct animation didn’t load, though one player suggested that this can happen inStardew Valley’s multiplayer modewhen one’s internet connection isn’t working well.
Thankfully, with this bug having no real impact on gameplay, plenty of fans seem to be amused and even wish they could see this for themselves. Sebastian fans seemed to approve of the glitch, commenting on the “cool” way he was casually smoking while sliding backwards. Many players recounted stories of NPCs randomly walking through walls, and one said that they’d even seen a similar problem to this particular glitch with one of their in-game children. It’s not clear if this bug is connected toStardew Valley’s recent update, but if it is a widespread problem, it’s likely to be fixed by ConcernedApe in the near future.
