Summary
Gears of War: E-Daymay be one of the most important installments in the series yet, as it will not only arrive at a time when the franchise has been at an all-time low, but it also has the potential to bridge the gap between veteran fans and newcomers on account of its prequel status.Gears of War: E-Dayisn’t just an ordinary prequel, however, as it will tell the story of Emergence Day, the day when the Locust Horde invaded Sera, as well as the story of the series' beloved protagonist,Marcus Fenix, and his die-hard cohort, Dominic Santiago.
Thanks toGears of War: E-Day’s origin-story setting, The Coalition will have a unique opportunity to hop on an industry trend after the game’s release. Specifically, shouldGears of War: E-Dayperform admirably, it might be time for a remake of the originalGears of War.

Gears of War: E-Day Should Pave the Way for a Remake
Remakes Have Become Increasingly Popular Over the Years
It’s certainly no secret that video game remakes have become increasingly popular over the years, and while the idea of remaking an old video game tends to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of some, there is a perfectly understandable reason why it became a popular way of doing things in the first place. Whether video game remakes are received well really comes down to the dedication of their developers to offering an authentic and simultaneously fresh experience. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case, as some video game remakes claim to be such and yet are seeminglylittle more than a cash grab. Nevertheless, there is a perfectly justifiable reason for their persistent emergence.
Today is a golden age for video games, simply because many of those who grew up with the medium from its earliest days until now have had experience with a wide range of stories, visuals, and gameplay, and current technological developments allow for some of their favorite classics to be remade to look, sound, and play like never before.Square Enix’sFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeand its sequel,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, are some of the best examples of modern remakes, as they manage to capture the heart and soul of the originalFinal Fantasy 7and yet somehow manage to feel like an altogether different game.
Whether video game remakes are received well really comes down to the dedication of their developers to offering an authentic and simultaneously fresh experience.
This is precisely whyvideo game remakeshave become so popular as of late. The uncanny ability they have to allow gamers to relive the experiences of their youth, all while introducing that experience to new audiences, is a testament to whatever positive reputation they maintain. When remakes are done well, meaning that they are far more than merely a better-looking version of the original, they show the emotional impact and enduring grip their original versions have had on the gaming industry and their timelessness as they are received with open arms by veterans and modern audiences alike.
The Original Gears of War Deserves a Remake After E-Day
Given the growing popularity of video game remakes and thesetting ofGears of War: E-Day, a natural form of progression would now be for The Coalition to remake the originalGears of War. First released in November 2006,Gears of Waris now nearing 20 years of age, which, alongside its beloved status amongGearsfans, makes it the perfect candidate for a remake. A modern remake ofGears of Warcould reintroduce the game to a new generation of players, especially those drawn in byE-Daywho may not have experienced the original. AGears of Warremake could also, obviously, be a way to “continue” the story ofE-Dayfor a more cohesive narrative.
Furthermore, sinceGears of War: E-Dayis using Unreal Engine 5, aGears of Warremake would presumably take advantage of that technology as well for a much more satisfying visual experience, much like what theFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketrilogyis doing for the originalFinal Fantasy 7. Ultimately, however, it would simply be a great way for fans to revisit theGears of Wargame that started it all and get a fresh experience from it. Of course, none of this has been openly discussed by The Coalition, but one can dream.
