Like every otherArkhamgame before and after it,Batman: Arkham Originsfeatures a plethora of achievements tethered to its story campaign and challenge mode. Rather,Batman: Arkham Origins’ go a considerable step further in terms of difficulty by including ridiculously arduous and fixed gameplay tasks for players to accomplish in the Dark Knight System’s Shadow Vigilante, Gotham Protector, Worst Nightmare, and World’s Greatest Detective tracks, which players can also be locked out of if they aren’t completed in unforgivingly specific ways, especially with each rank needing to be finished in a particular order.
The Dark Knight System adds an element of meticulousness to playthroughs that can be enjoyable if players appreciate how strategic and mindful they’ll need to be as they progress through the story. On the other hand, there are achievements that players simply can’t earn anymore and have lost out on the ability to do so if they weren’t able to before theBatman: Arkham Origins’ multiplayer went dark. Now that rumors have begun to circulate aboutBatman: Arkham Asylumpotentially receiving a remake,Originscould certainly use one as well, if only to rectify this egregious oversight.

Batman: Arkham Origins’ Multiplayer Woes Condemn It to This Day
As of right now, it seems the onlyArkhamremake being rumored is one forArkham Asylum. If that rumor alone is true, then it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to believe thatBatman: Arkham Originscould see one in the future, too, and a remake has been desired sinceBatman: Arkham AsylumandBatman: Arkham Cityreceived remasters packaged as theReturn to Arkhamduology.
Originsisn’t a bad-looking game and is accessible on PC, but WB Games Montreal’s prequel entry is in dire need of a modern remake if only so it could have the opportunity to reassess and reimplement achievements, guaranteeing that there are no multiplayer-related ones required for 100% completion.Originsintroducing a multiplayer mode to the Arkhamversewas an interesting and novel footnote in the franchise with players assuming Batman and Robin’s dynamic duo or a faction henchman led by either Joker or Bane (who were also playable within this mode).
Whether it was hugely popular or not, it has since been completely removed fromOriginsand that might not have been wholly disappointing in and of itself ifOriginsdidn’t feature a handful of achievements that will forever be greyed out and left incomplete for anyone who didn’t go after them beforehand. As salt on the wound, players are still notified inOrigins’ story campaignwhen they earn a multiplayer reward for disrupting Penguin’s arms caches throughout Gotham City.
Batman: Arkham Origins Has a Wrong to Right and a Remake Can Facilitate That
Batman: Arkham CityandBatman: Arkham Knight’s achievements are tremendously arduous to pursue due to how many revolve around challenge mode medals with nearly every available playable character, and yet they’re all still at least achievable. If aBatman: Arkham Originsremake was to bring multiplayer back, achievements should be left out of it so that it, too, doesn’t lock players out of 100% completion if it is delisted before players can obtain them.
Of course, that’s assuming anOriginsremake would reprise multiplayer at all, and that alone would be enormously unlikely despite how many players might appreciate it. A remake ofOriginswould arguably be missing one of its most valuable and nostalgic pieces if multiplayer was brushed aside, similar to how co-op seems like a must-have fora possible upcomingResident Evil 5remake, and only time will tell ifOriginsever gets its due diligence with appropriate reparations made to the playerbase.
