Path of Exile 2will often have you surrounded bygroups of enemiesor face-to-face with large bosses that deal huge area of effect attacks. While your main focus will always be to deal damage, players are able to block and dodge incoming attacks to try and avoid them.

While blocking is limited to only those with a shield equipped, dodging can be done by any class and is a great way to avoid damage and also reposition to get ready for a counterattack. Here’s how to do both, no matter what class you are.

How To Dodge In Path of Exile 2

Dodging is available to all classesand ascended classesand is one of the first skills you get when the game starts. Once you’re able to freely move around, dodging is one of the skills you’ll immediately have, bound to:

Like all skills, your dodge can be bound in any way you want, or even removed completely if you want, though this is not recommended. For most characters, dodging will be your main way of avoiding damage, asthere is no cooldown on the skillaside from the time it takes your character to stand up out of a roll to then roll again. Rolling moves you a short distance whichever way you are facing when you roll, avoiding all damage that goes over your hitbox while you’re rolling.

you’re able to’t roll through most enemies, so you can get surrounded and stuck.

How To Block In Path of Exile 2

For those who choose toequip a shield, you can hold it up in combat to block a lot of incoming damage.Attacks from smaller enemies will be completely blocked, with your health and armor being untouched. Some larger attacks from bosses can still be blocked, while their more powerful attacks will get through a shield but for reduced damage. Area of effect spells or attacks also aren’t affected by your shield, as they only block incoming damage in the direction you’re facing.

To block, equip a shield to getaccess to the, “Raise Shield” skillthat can be bound and used as often as you’d like. The only limitation to blocking isyour stagger bar, which is the small bar over your bound skills that will fill yellow as enemies hit your shield. Once it fills up, you’ll be briefly staggered and unable to dodge, though this takes multiple enemies many hits a piece before it fills up.
