One of the biggest growing pains of stepping out of the campaign and into theendgame ofPath of Exile 2is getting started on mapping on the right foot. Running out of Waystones to play the game feels terrible, especially at higher tiers.
Luckily, there are many ways to remedy this, and taking the proper steps goes a long way in helping players sustain their mapping phase with Waystones easily. Here are the most important steps you need to take in order to keep those Waystones coming.
Updated Jul 23, 2025, by Hamza Haq:As of Patch 0.2.0 of Path of Exile 2, the process of sustaining waystones in the endgame has been made significantly easier, making it much more accessible to players just starting out in the endgame. Waystone drop rate has been increased, and guaranteed ways of obtaining waystones have been introduced. A lot of the methods of sustaining waystones described for Patch 0.1.1 are no longer relevant, and the article has been updated accordingly.
Prioritize Boss Maps on the Atlas
The absolute best way to sustain Waystones inPath of Exile 2is touse your highest rarity Waystones on Boss map nodesin the endgame. All bosses in endgame atlas map nodes have a 100% chance of dropping a Waystone one tier higher than the tier of the Waystone used to access the map. This means if you run a Tier 10 Waystone on a boss node and defeat the boss, it will always drop at least one Tier 11 Waystone. This is the best way to scale up to higher tiers, as it does not rely on chance drops.
Additionally, the final rare monsters in a map that don’t have a final boss will always drop a Waystone of the same tier as the map you’re in. This means as long as you complete any map, you will at least get back one Waystone of the same tier. This is in addition to any possible chance drops, which means statistically, as long as you’re not dying, you will always have a surplus of Waystones in the endgame.
As of Patch 0.2.0, Waystones will only drop at the same tier or at a higher tier than the tier of the Waystone used to access the map. This does not apply to Tier 16+ Waystones.
Spend Currency On Waystones
It can be tempting to hoard all yourRegal OrbandExalted Orbto use for trading or crafting instead of spending them to juice up your Waystones, but that is a mistake. Think of Waystones as investments: the more you spend, the more you get back (if you don’t die in the process). It’s supposed to form a virtuous cycle, but that cycle can only work if you keep feeding into Waystones. Here is a general overview of how to spend currency on Waystones:
There are two main stats to look out for, which make mapping very lucrative.
And anything that either increases the number of monsters in the area, preferably rare ones.
List items on sale for Regal Orbs instead of Exalted Orbs if they are not selling on trade. They’ll fly off the shelves far quicker, and you’ll earn usable currency in the process.
Take Waystone Drop Chance Atlas Skill Tree Nodes
As you progress through Waystone tiers and complete Doryani’s quest, you’ll start earning Atlas skill tree points. Using these points smartly is crucial for sustaining Waystones in the endgame. Three nodes, in particular, should almost always be taken first if you’re having trouble with Waystones. They are:
You’ll be able to unlock all three of these nodes by the time you’re done with Tier 4 maps. Don’t be afraid to respec if you went another route on the Atlas Skill tree;gold is cheap, Waystones aren’t.
Finalize Your Build Before Doing Tier 5+ Maps
A key reason many players find themselves constantly running out of Waystones to play the endgame is the fact that their build is not in its final endgame form, resulting in themdying to bosses, rares, or even regular mobs. If you’re having trouble, don’t be hesitant to look up a build guide for your class andrespec accordingly. No amount of Waystone drop chance or increased rare monster spawns will help you sustain Waystones if you keep dying in maps.
Leveling guidesare often not suitable for the endgame mapping phase. What worked in the campaign may not work now.
Use Precursor Tablets
Precursor Tablets can be used to increase the rarity and number of monsters, as well as a whole bunch of extra modifiers at a tower. What many players may not realize is that these can be stacked byusing Tablets on Towers that are near each other, resulting in maps that have the extra effects of two or even three precursor tablets. Like currency, these Tablets are not meant to be hoarded but used, even as early as on T5+ maps.
Buy Waystones on the Trade Site
Sometimes, you might get unlucky, and even after taking all the precautions and proper steps, you might still run out of Waystones. To get a chance to get back into the swing of things, you might need a headstart and there is no shame in falling back on thetrade siteto tide you over. Thegoing price of Waystones (of all tiers) is around 1 Exalted Orb. Sub-Tier 10 Waystones can often be found for less, but most sellers typically chuck them all in the 1 Exalted Orb stash and forget about it.
