Developer Heart Machine’s upcoming titleHyper Light Breakeris set in the same mysterious, yet ruined world ofHyper Light Drifter.Returning to that world,Hyper Light Breakerwill inject some major innovations into the franchise’s overall gameplay design. Most notably, it will pivot from 2-D action and retro pixel graphics into a vibrant and fully 3-D open-world roguelike experience, with each run’s geography and levels being procedurally generated while encompassing an overarching story.
Another big change thatHyper Light Breakerwill offer is co-op. Both it and the single-player mode will allow fans to choose from a range of characters, each with distinct SyComs (classes), abilities, and gear to build on as they push further through subsequent runs. AsHyper Light Breakergets closer to launching into its Early Access period, Game Rant can exclusively reveal a new trailer focused on one of its playable characters, Lapis.
Hyper Light Breaker’s Lapis Character and Abilities Revealed
Hyper Light Breaker’scharacter classesare known as SyComs, and each character will be able to cover multiple SyComs. Lapis is a female Breaker who is classified as a soldier and scholar, and the trailer showcases her “Lightweaver” and “Warrior” SyComs.
Lapis is first seen taking on a large and heavily armored enemy while wielding a massive cannon that appears to rain down devastating projectiles. She then gracefully transitions into unleashing a rapid series of strikes with a glowing short sword. Later, Lapis makes use of powerful grenades to clear out a group of blob-like enemies. Each instance is a quick look, but when taken altogether, it’s clear what Lapis offers in terms ofHyper Light Breakergameplay.
While players will likely uncover more of each character’s personality and history as they delve deeper into its tale, Lapis is stated to hail from theNorthern Realms. This could be the same frozen mountainous area that fans ofHyper Light Driftermay be familiar with and provide some clues to her backstory. Regardless, with her combination of heavier firepower and quick, flashy blade moves, Lapis seems to offer some great versatility in terms of approaching combat encounters. Fans will soon be able to try out Lapis' abilities and experiment with them for themselves whenHyper Light Breakerenters Early Access on Steam on January 14.
