Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known by the Japanese nicknameDanmachi, has been airing anew season since October.Season Vcovers the Freya arc, which takes place during volumes 16-18 of the original novel.
There are rumors this season will end with 15 episodes (11 have aired so far, and the series is gettingan English dub), making it only one cour long. Some fans expect that a sequel will be green lit soon, but the anime is reaching the novel, so production might wait a while before making any big announcement.
Volume 20 has just been released in Japan, but it brings big news. According to the author’s notes, the series is heading towards its final arc, andthe next volume (#21) will mark at least the beginning of the final phase. A final arc isnot necessarily only one volume long, but it means the series will probably end soon(there are final arcs that take years to end, though).
Danmachi Novel Serialization
Danmachiis penned by Fujino Omori and has been serialized since 2013,breaking some records. Some light novel series are first serialized in chapters in magazines and then compiled into volumes (like most manga), butDanmachiis only released in volumes, so it takes months for fans to be able to read the story again after finishing the latest volumes.
With a good reception, it spawned various other media, including manga and anime adaptations, spin-offs series (Sword Oratoriais the most famous one) and games.
The story takes place in a world in which gods and goddesses from many mythologies actually exist, and they apparently get bored pretty easily. That’s why many of them decide to go to the city of Oratoria and live while limiting their own powers in order to have some fun. In Oratoria, they form “Familias”, guilds to explore dungeons.
Then there’s the protagonist, Bell Cranel, who is the sole member of Hestia’s Familia. He wants to become one of the strongest swordsmen, but he also has a knack forunintentionally attracting girls' attention, including the goddess leading his Familia.
The Future of Danmachi Anime Adaptation
Considering the anime is really close to the novel, and that now we know the novel is likely to end soon, production might decide togo theDemon Slayerrouteand invest in movie production to make a big finale to the series.
