Gunn spoke about the trailer and explained what was on their minds when they created it while sharing his take on the titular character.
Gunn sat down for an interview with Screen Brief. According to theDCUco-chairman, when they created the trailer, he wanted the people to “get a sense of what to expect from the film.” However, they were careful not to give away the film’s full story. “I wanted to create a teaser trailer that gave the essence of what this movie is without giving away too much of the plot,” he added. When asked what the audience could expect from the newSupermanmovie, Gunn said it would highlight the superhero’s character. The director also teased that it would showcase not just Superman’s heroism, but his connection with humanity and why he was the best part of it.

The scene received mixed responses, withsome questioning why such a strong superhero would be in that vulnerable state. Gunn addressed the questions by saying Superman’s condition reflected the country’s state. Despite that, the director said he had faith in humanity’s kindness no matter what their ideologies and politics. “This movie is about that,” he added.
Gunn is clear in hisinterpretation ofSupermanbeing the symbol of hope, compassion and moral integrity and this is evident in the trailer. He also doubled down on his praise for the superhero in his interviews by highlighting his outstanding qualities that humans should strive to emulate. Gunn has a great point in illustratingSuperman’s vulnerability because that makes him relatable to many. He is also right to setSupermanas an example for humanity because he is driven by a strong sense of doing what’s right, as is inculcated in him by his adoptive parents.Supermanalso has a strong sense of compassion and empathy for people. In the latter part of the trailer, the public can also be heard chanting “Superman.“Superman’spresence gives the people reassurance that good will always prevail over evil. He has always been a symbol of hope, the “S” logo in his costume also means “hope.” In Mark Waid’sSuperman: Birthrightseries, it was explained that the logo was the Kryptonian symbol for “hope.”
