Japan is where most manga and anime are consumed. And with the end of each year, the most-read manga in Japan are made public, much to the amusement of the fans.
This year, the top 20 are unveiled to everyone, compiled by Gem Partners, and as always, while some titles’ spots are to be expected, other surprising additions sneaked their way into the list too.
Unsurprisingly to many people,One Piecetops the list this year as Japan’s most-read manga of 2024. In 2024,One Piececovered the Egghead Island arc in its majority,and also some chapters from the newest arc, Elbaf.
One Piecehas always been religiously followed in Japan, with the majority of its sales being from there as well.One Piececontinues its strong run as a manga among Japanese audiences, even though it has been ongoing for over 2 decades now, and will probably go on for more years to come, depending on how long the final saga ends up being.
One Pieceaside, some other manga had their time to shine in 2024. As expected,Jujutsu Kaisenmade it very high, being beaten by onlyOne Piece. However, the manga ended this year. In third place,Kingdom, a long-running seinen manga, is still going strong. While it might not be as popular overseas, it is widely beloved in Japan.
Oshi No Koalso ended this year, similarly toJJK, and has been a huge hit among audiences since its anime debut. And in fifth place,Frierenhas been a huge hit. The story captivated countless fans.Sadly, the manga has just gone on an indefinite hiatus.
Outside of the top 5, but still strong enough to make it to the top 10, there are mangas such asDemon Slayer.Demon Slayerended over 4 years ago, so its strong performance shows its popularity.
Detective Conan,The Apothecary Diaries,SPY x FAMILY,andMy Hero Academiamake up the rest of the top 10.Haikyu!!almost made it, but ended up finishing in 11th place.
