Joe Russo Shares His Respect for Tom Holland

Russo andSpider-Mandirector Jon Watts spoke withMen’s Health Magazinefeaturing Holland on its January 2025 issue cover. The filmmakers talked about the things they loved aboutThe Impossibleactor. According to Watts, he was amazed that even Holland seemed surprised by his accomplishments, just like when he perfected hisUmbrelladance at theLip Sync Battle. “He’s exhausted and can’t believe he just got through it perfectly, and he’s just so happy, and so proud. I love it,” Watt said of Holland.

Russo agreed and shared the thing he loved most about Holland, and it had a lot to do with him remaining the same person before he became famous despite his success in Hollywood. “The thing that impresses me the most,” Russo added about theSpider-Manstar, “is that he has become an international movie star from the time we met him until now. He is hounded by the press. He’s in a very high-profile relationship. And he has remained exactly the same through all of it. Completely genuine, completely earnest, and as lovable as he was the day he first walked into our office for his first audition.”

Russo didn’t stop there. He also praised Holland for his “sense of responsibility and duty,” adding that the actor is “somebody who cares a lot about other people.” For the director, Holland was a complete package because he has the “movie-star quality” and “the charisma, the confidence, [and] the energy.” Joe also recounted the time Holland wowed him when the latter auditioned forSpider-Manby making a big entrance. “He entered the scene at one of the auditions by doing a flip!” Watts felt the same, saying, “It was like watching a video of the real Peter Parker.” No wonder Holland bagged the role; he left a good impression after the audition.

Most, if not all, would agree that Holland is a great talent and he is also funny, charming, and lovable. He recently shared the momenthe learned he was MCU’s newestSpider-Manin his interview on the Dish Podcast. Holland said he was only 18 at the time and he found out about the casting on Instagram. Apparently, he learned about the news just like anyone else. Holland said Marvel posted a picture ofSpider-Manon social media and encouraged fans to check their website to know about the nextSpider-Manstar and when he realized it was him, he slammed his computer, just like an overwhelmed teenager. Holland admitted that he thought he lost the role because he hadn’t heard from Marvel for around six weeks. However, he received a call from them shortly after he learned he was the new Peter Parker.

Holland is a great actor and a talented dancer. He trained in gymnastics, ballet, tap dancing and acrobatics. He also performed in musicals. His performance onLip Sync Battlewas a massive hit that many still watch it today. One fan jokingly commented, “There was no point in doing any more lip-sync battles after Tom, he won the entire show for eternity.” Aside from Holland’s talent, he is down-to-earth, grounded and genuinely kind. Holland is set to star inSpider-Man 4after his successfulSpider-Mantrilogy.
