Summary
A leaker recently posted a photo of what they claim is the successor to theNintendo Switchhybrid console. With theNintendo Switchreaching the last few years of its lifespan, fans are preparing for the day when the Japanese company will announce its successor in 2025. While the Switch 2 has been rumored for a long time, Nintendo confirmed its development earlier this year, though specific details about the console itself are still a mystery to many gamers.
Even more rumors and speculation have surrounded the Nintendo Switch 2 ever since it was officially announced, making it difficult to pin down what is accurate or fabricated. Thehardware of the Switch 2 is supposedly more powerfulthan some gamers might have expected for a handheld hybrid console, with leaks suggesting it will feature 12 GB of RAM. Its form factor was also allegedly leaked by a third-party hardware developer, claiming its dimensions were based on a 3D scan of the console. Another leaker has come forward with a supposed first look at the console, giving a look at its side.

This photo was posted byNextHandheld on Twitter, saying they “couldn’t resist” sharing it, considering it an early reveal. The console is supposedly being shown in their hand, having a similar form factor to the Switch. There is a plus sign on what’s supposed to be the bottom-left side of the console, along with a Nintendo logo above it. There appears to be a metal divet in the side that is likely for themagnetic Joy-Con controllers that the Switch 2 is rumored to have. The kickstand is also shown in a U-shape, matching up with previous leaks.
Doubts About This “Leaked” Switch 2 Image
Thissupposed image of the Nintendo Switch 2, however, came under scrutiny from users on Twitter. Many believed the image that NextHandheld shared was a fabrication generated by AI, as users pointed to the lopsided logo, the edges of the console looking uneven, and other aspects that look odd. Users also ran the image through an AI-generated image detector, with the results showing that it is very likely to be made by GenAI and MidJourney.
Much like with otherleaks revolving around the Switch 2 console, fans should take this leak with a grain of salt until Nintendo makes its official announcement. While Nintendo’s next console won’t be announced for a while, the Switch still has a solid lineup going into 2025. Some important releases include third-party titles likeTales of Graces f: RemasteredandPhantom Brave: The Lost Hero, along with first-party games likeDonkey Kong Country Returns HD,Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, andXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
