It has been confirmed that Scarlet will be produced by Studio Chizu. The studio was co-founded by Mamoru Hosoda and Yuichiro Saito in 2011. Studio Chizu has won three awards at the Japan Academy Film Prize;only Madhouse and Studio Ghiblicome close. So far, it has produced the following titles:
An official synopsis has been disclosed as well. Scarlet will follow the story of a mighty princess who transcends space and time. Yūichirō Saitō is directing the movie. He has previously worked on projects such as Belle, Summer Wars, Last Order, and Final Fantasy VII.
Mamoru Hosoda is writing the screenplay and directing the movie. He has also said the movie will not be 2D or Hollywood-style CG.
