Game Rant exclusively revealsODDRooM, an unorthodox first-person shooter fromGungrave Goredeveloper IGGYMOB.ODDRooMlargely takes place within a series of lucid dreams where the player character is aware that they’re dreaming, an understanding that grants the player heightened capabilities duringfirst-person shootercombat and traversal.ODDRooMpits players against a staggering variety of enemies throughout each dream sequence, along with an equally impressive array of environments and scenarios.
In a roughly four-and-a-half-minute-long trailer provided to Game Rant, IGGYMOB highlightsODDRooM’s dreamlike visual style, its lighthearted yet action-packed gunplay, and an assortment of adrenaline-fueled traversal sequences. The trailer also depicts severalbullet-hell-style boss fights, a handful of enemy types that appear to be homages to games likeElden Ring, and much ofODDRooM’s weapon and environmental variety.
ODDRooM’s Dream Sequences Keep Players Guessing
The trailer starts with the player finding themselves in a mansion, greeted by a strange cat-like being, and then setting off through one of the numerous glowing doors toward a dream sequence. The mansion is a hub area for players between missions, allowing them to decide which dream to tackle next. In a way, it resemblesPeach’s Castle inSuper Mario 64, and it appears that these “dream doors” are progressively unlocked in a similar fashion.
IGGYMOB then dives straight into gameplay, showing offODDRooM’s whimsical approach to otherwise impactful and fast-paced first-person-shooter gameplay. Bullet impacts are accentuated with comic-style speech bubbles like “Splat!” and “Kill!” which brings to mindclassic shooters likeXIII. Upon death, enemiesoccasionally explode confetti accompanied by a celebratoryDuke Nukem-style voice line. The player is also shown unleashing comically powerful uppercuts with their legs, sending enemies into low-Earth orbit. Those same legs are used for slides, wall runs, and huge leaps, demonstratingODDRooM’s acrobatic movement. It’s an action-packed, hyperviolent shooter that substitutes gore with IGGYMOB’s oddball sense of humor.
ODDRooMwears absurdity on its sleeve.
ODDRooM’s enemies and environments stole the show in this trailer, with a dizzying variety of themes owing toODDRooM’s dream sequence setting. In one scene, the player is careening down the face of a cyberpunk skyscraper, while in another they’re lobbing pumpkin bombs at rabbit monsters in a dimly lit fantasy dungeon.ODDRooMwears absurdity on its sleeve, and there appear to be some nods to other franchises. One standout example was enemies that strongly resembleElden Ring’s Living Jars, while other assailants bear a strong resemblance toPrey’s Typhon. Based on what was shown in the brief trailer, it’s safe to say that IGGYMOB has dreamed up a memorable experience for shooter fans.
