Deadlinereported thatMonroe is starring in the Neon horror movieBrides. The actress has a few other movies lined up, includingThe Hand That Rocks the Cradle, In Cold Light, and100 Nights of Hero.Neon has bought North American rights toBrides.

As Deadline explained, this isMonroe and Neon’s third horror movie. The actress previously starred inWatcher, which was released in 2022, andLonglegs, which came out earlier in 2024and featured Nicolas Cage as a serial killer. Monroe’s other horror or thriller films includeGretaandTau.However, there’s no doubt thatMonroe’s most famous movie isIt Follows, which was released in 2014. She played Jay Height, a college student who becomes cursed after sleeping with her boyfriend. In the impressive film, Jay now sees a mysterious entity everywhere and tries to stop it.
Chloe Okuno and Monroe have worked together previously as well as Okuno directedWatcher. Okuno will write and directBrides, which is aboutSally Bishop (Monroe) who goes on vacation to a villa in Italy with her husband. The problem? There is a count there, who pays attention to Sally and is likely evil. The plot is fascinating and, like inWatcher, Monroe is playing a character who is married and dealing with a scary, strange situation. The premise ofBridesis a reminder that a horror movie’s setting is integral to its success. Whetherit’s a single-location horror movieorthe film is set in a school, a movie is more riveting when the characters are stuck or in a unique place. In the case ofBrides, Sally and her husband thought they would be going on a fun, peaceful, and relaxing trip, but something is clearly wrong.
In an interview withIndieWire, Monroe talked about playing so many horror characters. She said:
“I’ve definitely gotten better at it. I’ve learned that for me, for my mental health, I have to be able to let go of it at the end of the day. A lot of the movies that I do are very dark and very intense, and it doesn’t do me any good to live in that space for longer than I needed to.”
Monroe continued that shehopes her characters are “grounded"and she works from “my own traumas and my own experiences.” She definitely does a great job with that. Likethe most intriguing final girls, Monroe’s characters are just like real people with busy lives and rich inner worlds. They are so much more than just cheesy examples of this horror trope.
Bridesdoesn’t have a release date yet, but Monroe’s fans will be waiting to hear when they see the scream queen in another awesome role.
