As should be the case for any great hero shooter,Marvel Rivals' roster is one of the game’s biggest strengths. At launch,Marvel Rivalsis home to 33 playable characters, many of whom are household names from the Marvel universe, and some of whom are slightly more obscure. But even the most obscure characters onMarvel Rivals' rosterhave deep lore connections to the rest of the cast, and one of the game’s greatest highlights is how those connections are explored.
Along with pre-match dialogue between heroes and villains,Marvel Rivalsis home to an array of team-up moves that reference a pre-established relationship between two or more characters in the comics. Scarlet Witch and Magneto share one such team-up move, referencing the duo’s long-running familial relationship in the comics. But there’s one crucial part of this familial connection that’s missing fromMarvel Rivals, and that should be remedied as soon as possible.

Marvel Rivals Should Add One Part of Magneto’s Family Tree
Quicksilver’s Relationship to Magneto Explained
When Wanda Maximoff and her twin brother Pietro first debuted in1964’sUncannyX-Men #4, they were orphans who were taken in by Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. But in the 1980s, Magneto discovers that his old flame Magda gave birth to twins before fleeing Wundagore Mountain. These twins were Wanda and Pietro, meaning that Magneto was actually their biological father.
This familial connection between the three remained canon for decades, right up until 2014’sAXIScrossover series. When Scarlet Witch’s powers are turned against her, she unleashes a spell designed to harm her family members. Quicksilver is the only one affected by this spell, suggesting that Magneto is not actually the twins' father. This is then confirmed, with the twins' powers having come fromthe High Evolutionary’s experimentsand not any Mutant genes.

While Magneto is technically not Wanda or Pietro’s biological father in the current canon, the constant retconning of their familial relationship has led many fans to just choose the version of the relationship they personally prefer. WhileMarvel Rivalshasn’t confirmed if its version ofScarlet Witch and Magnetoare biologically related, their team-up move “Metallic Chaos” seems to hint that the two have a strong connection. ButMarvel Rivalsis missing a core part of the Maximoff/Eisenhardt trifecta.
Quicksilver Would Be a Great Addition to Marvel Rivals' Roster
WhileMarvel Rivals' roster already has a great mix of superpowers, it’s missing a true speedster, and that’s where Quicksilver could come in. Nailing speedster gameplay would be no easy feat, butdeveloper NetEasehas already proven that it can handle a variety of different ability sets, some of which would have been previously deemed as too difficult to translate to the hero shooter formula.
Marvel Rivals Could Use Another One of Magneto’s Children
Introduced in 1968’sUncanny X-Men #49, Lorna Dane (Polaris) is a Mutant with the power to manipulate magnetic fields. Much like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver,Polaris' connection to Magnetois an unnecessarily complicated one that also features its fair share of retcons. However, most Marvel continuities agree that Polaris is the biological daughter of Magneto, and she’d be another great addition toMarvel Rivals' roster.
With many of the same abilities as her father, it’d be great to see Polaris use her powerful skill set to fulfill a support role inMarvel Rivals, as the game does require a few more Specialists. Polaris could act similarly toOverwatch’s Juno, using her power over magnetic fields to fly above the battlefield and provide her allies with bubble shields and health.
