As the trailer shows,Gooding and Olivia Holt’s charactersfall in love and find their new romance (and their lives) being by the Heart Eyes Killer. Ally (Holt) opens the closet door in her bedroom to find the masked villain waiting for her. As a news reporter explains, the killer has stalked couples every Valentine’s Day for the past few years, but no one can figure out why. The story follows the usual slasher formula where the clock is ticking and the main characters must fight for their survival while figuring out the mystery.
Divide/Conquer and Spyglass Media Group are producingHeart Eyes, which was written by Christopher Landon, Michael Kennedy, and Philip Murphy.Spyglass is known for producingScream, the Eli Roth slasherThanksgiving, and the 2022 remake ofHellraiser. Landon is known for making horror movies such asFreaky,Happy Death Day, andWe Have a Ghost.Landon was also the original director attached toScream 7but left in December 2023 and Kevin Williamson took over.
Gooding and Holt have worked in the horror/thriller genre before.Gooding became famous playing Chad Meeks-MartininScream (2022)andScream 6, and Holt starred in season 1 ofthe teen thrillerCruel Summer. Gooding isreprising his role of Chad inScream 7and, besides,Heart Eyes, recentlystarred in Kyle Mooney’s horror movieY2K.
Although there have beenhorror movies set at Christmasand countless films where the main characters are celebrating the candy-filled holiday of Halloween,it’s rare for a horror film to take place on Valentine’s Day. In comparison to the cheesy 2001 filmValentine,Heart Eyeslooks genuinely eerie, at least from the trailer. It’s hard not to be curious about who the killer is and why they’ve decided to go after couples who are celebrating this romantic day. It’s easy to imagine aHeart Eyessequel or even a franchise about copycat killers on various holidays.
Heart Eyeswill be released in movie theaters on February 7th, 2025, and fans will get a chance to see Gooding on the big screen beforeScream 7comes out in February 2026.
