Summary
Jennifer Hale, who famously voiced the female version of Commander Shepard, is excited about Amazon’sMass Effectseries and thinks the original cast should make an appearance. Amazon entered negotiations with BioWare for the rights to make a live-action adaptation of theMass Effectgames back in 2021, and a few years later it was confirmed that a TV series is now in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. CurrentMass Effectgame project leader Michael Gamble is attached to the project, as is former Marvel Television producer Karim Zreik, movie producer Avi Arad, andFast & Furious 9writer Daniel Casey.
The branching, choice-based nature ofMass Effect’s narrative raises many questions about how a live-action adaptation would be handled. In the games, certain characters can live or die based on the player’s actions, and the main character Commander Shepard is completely customizable. This means that casting the great hero will be achallenge for the upcomingMass Effectshow, as everyone already has their own version of Shepard that may or may not match what will be depicted onscreen.

One of the original two Shepard actors recently weighed in on the in-developmentMass Effectseries during an interview withEurogamer. Jennifer Hale’s long and impressive voice-acting resume includes the female version of Shepard inthe first threeMass Effectgames, and she said that she would love to be involved in the new show in some capacity. Hale wasn’t just talking about herself either, stating that it would be “really smart” to bring back as many of the games’ original voice cast as possible. “The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I’ve ever met […] So I’m ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine.”
Jennifer Hale Wants to Come Back for Mass Effect TV Series
When asked which version of Commander Shepard she would like to see realized in thelive-actionMass Effectshow, Jennifer Hale naturally leaned toward the “FemShep” that she first brought to life in the original trilogy. Of course, she added that she would be happy to play any role in the show, just as she would be excited to return in the nextMass Effectvideo game currently in the works at BioWare.
The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I’ve ever met […] So I’m ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine.
Jennifer Hale’s Commander Shepard was just one of the manymemorable heroes and villains of theMass Effectseries, which featured a talented cast of voice actors and celebrities that helped make BioWare’s rich sci-fi world feel all the more real to players. Even if they don’t reprise their roles from the games, getting to see Brandon Keener (who voiced the Turian squadmate Garrus Vakarian), Raphael Sbarge (whose BioWare credentials includeMass Effect’s Kaidan Alenko), or even Jennifer Hale herself would be a treat for longtime fans tuning into Amazon’s live-actionMass EffectTV series.
