Monster Hunter NowSeason 4 has kicked off. Called Roars from the Winterwind, it introduces more monsters, another weapon type, and a new habitat, among other novelties thatMonster Hunter Nowplayers can look forward to.

Niantic and Capcom’s jointly developed mobile game launched in September 2023.Monster Hunter Nowintroduced a season systemin March 2024, offering limited-time quests, storylines, and rewards to players every few months. Its most recently concluded season, Curse of the Wandering Flames, wrapped up on December 12.

As has now become tradition, Niantic launched yet another season—Roars from the Winterwind—hot on the heels of its newly finished one. The developer’s latest content drop introduces a new tundra habitat, whereMonster Hunter Nowplayerswill be able to find some novel monsters native to icy regions, such as Lagombi, Volvidon, Tigres, and Somnacanth. Aside from new creatures, Raors from the Winterwind also marks the return of several previously featured monsters, like Wulg, Cortos, and Barioth, none of which have been encounterable in the popular mobile game since spring 2024.

Monster Hunter Now Debuts New Weapon Type for Axe Lovers

Another novelty debuting in Season 4 is anewMonster Hunter Nowweapon type called the Switch Axe. Like its name implies, this armament allows players to switch between two modes: axe and sword. The former offers greater reach and higher damage per hit, while the latter specializes in fast attacks that can quickly chip away at monsters from up close. As such, this latest addition to the game’s weapon pool could be difficult to use for newcomers, but veteran players are bound to appreciate its versatility once they get the hang of it.

Roars from the Winterwind alsoprovidesMonster Hunter Nowplayers with their very own Palico, who will help them with marking monsters and gathering materials. The new companion has customizable facial features and fur color, and can also be named. Another Season 4 novelty arrives in the form of a cheer function, which allows players to send virtual encouragement to one another. Receiving a cheer from a friend will temporarily raise one’s health for the day. This effect can stack up to a maximum of ten cheers per 24 hours.

Season 4 also doubles the number of equipment loadouts to 20 and introduces some limited-time Supply items. The Starter Pass has returned to the in-game shop to celebrate the launch of Roars of the Winterwind, and will remain on sale until January 5. Niantic’s track record suggests thatMonster Hunter NowSeason 4 will run for exactly three months, concluding on Jun 14, 2025.

Once Season 4 begins*, some monsters will temporarily stop appearing on the field. However, it will be possible to unlock them once more by completing urgent quests that occur in the Season 4 story quest.
