Summary

Deku’s ability to manifest the quirks ofOne For All’s previous usershas upped the ante for myHero Academia’snarrative. Out of the 6 new quirks that Deku has received, arguably the most useful one is Danger Sense, a quirk that belongs to One For All’s fourth user, Hikage Shinomori. Despite seeming like a relatively simple quirk, Danger Sense has many intricacies, along with a handful of weaknesses that make the quirk rather difficult to use.

Deku has successfully incorporated danger Sense into his unique fighting style, turning a meager support ability into an essential quirk needed for battle. The one-for-all stockpiling effect has also turned danger Sense into a much more powerful quirk, which has been evident from the events that have taken place in the latest seasons ofMy Hero Academia.

Hikage Shinomori, Izuku Midoriya

Belonging to the fourth user of One For All,Danger Sense is a utility quirkthat essentially alerts the user of any imminent danger. This has been stated to produce a stabbing sensation in the head, which can sometimes be too much for the user to bear. However, the quirk has a lot more facets to it than merely being an alarm bell for danger.

The quirk’s activation depends on many factors, such as the malice that the opponent has towards the user, or the general negative emotions experienced by others. Danger Sense’s radius of detecting any sort of incoming danger has also been shown to be rather large, as witnessed in the case ofLady Nagant’s sniper bullets. The quirk was able to detect Nagant’s presence, despite her being miles away from Deku.

Workings of Danger Sense

Danger Sense works by detecting any sort of incoming danger or threat for the user, a feat that the quirk accomplishes by observing any sort of malice or hatred directed towards the user. However, the quirk can only become active if the incoming threat stems from malicious intent. This became evident inthe case of Himiko Toga, who attacked Deku based on sentiments of affection and love. This rendered Danger Sense useless against her, since there was no malice in her actions. However, this is a rare case, as most threats and attacks originate from some sort of malicious intent.

Danger Sense can also activate from sentiments of anxiety, hatred, and fear felt by the masses. This aspect of Danger Sense was not known before, though it became apparent during the jailbreak incident, which led to the public’s hatred and disappointment in heroes. Danger Sense went berserk after sensing these strong emotions, showcasing that not only threats against Deku can activate the quirk, but also the general hatred and fear of people around him.

Weaknesses of Deku’s Danger Sense

Danger Sense Has a Few Drawbacks

While Danger Sense doesn’t present itself as a quirk that may have many drawbacks, it is still laced with several weaknesses that can hinder the user’s fighting prowess. The first and foremost weakness of Danger Sense is its sharp stabbing pain in the head that originates whenever the quirk senses danger. While the fourth user never exactly mentioned this debilitating aspect of the quirk, it does present itself as a weakness that can hinder the user’s true potential.

It’s likely that in Deku’s case, this drawback was exacerbated due toOne For All’s stockpiling effect. While other quirks evolved by increasing power, Danger Sense was modified in the form of a much more intense pain. However, Deku was able to overcome this negative aspect of the quirk through training, though he still states that a mild discomfort remains whenever the quirk activates.

Another major weakness of the quirk lies in the fact that Danger Sense only activates if the opponent has malicious intent against the user. This can be a massive drawback for the quirk if the attacker holds no malice towards the user, as was the case with Himiko Togo. Thisintricacy of the quirkis quite intriguing, as it shows that the quirk does not take into account the user’s own sentiments, and instead prioritizes the attacker’s intent.

How Deku Incorporates Danger Sense into His Fighting Style

Danger Sense Remains At the Center of Deku’s Fighting Style

Danger Sense has been a significant asset forDeku throughout his battlesin the latest season ofMy Hero Academia. While Deku’s fighting style has become quite complex with the addition of six more quirks from One For All’s previous users, Danger Sense is the only power that activates without Deku’s own voluntary control. This passive status of the quirks makes it rather simple for him to use in his battles, as it requires no conscious effort to be utilized effectively.

The fast-paced nature of Deku’s latestbattles against Shigarakimake this quirk the perfect addition to his repertoire. Danger Sense allows Deku to keep up with the flurry of attacks thrown his way, giving him ample time to dodge and devise a counterattack with the rest of his quirks. Despite Danger Sense’s drawbacks, the quirk has remained an integral part of Deku’s fighting style inMy Hero Academia.
