TheTurokvideo game seriesfirst started in 1997, developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim for the Nintendo 64 and PC platforms in 1997. The game then got a few sequels, includingTurok 2: Seeds of Evil,Rage Wars, andShadow of Oblivion, which were all released on the N64 as well. The series then got a prequel in 2008 titledTurok: Evolution, along with a reboot simply titledTurok, that is unrelated to previous entries. The aforementionedEscape from the Lost Valleywas also unrelated to the main video game series, being based on theTurokcomics instead.Turok: Originsis the newest entry in this long-running and classic shooter franchise.

This trailer forTurok: Originswas shown off at The Game Awards, and demonstrated some of the game’s fast-paced co-op action, which can support up to three players at once. The debut trailer showed offa number ofTurok’s weapons, both futuristic and stone-age-esque, including laser rifles, bows, knives, and even a strange tendril-like weapon that can be used to throw dinosaurs around. Some of the dinosaurs were shown off in this trailer as well, including giant triceratops and velociraptors.
While no release date has been given forTurok: Originsyet, fans can wishlist thisdinosaur-themed gamenow, with it releasing on PS5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.Turok: Originsalso teases various returns to its roots, along with a new feature like being able to unlock new DNA powers from slain dinosaurs, giving players new abilities and the ability to customize them how they see fit.
Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch touts this as a proper revival of theTurokseries, bringing its action gameplay and spirit to the modern era with a new look, story, and gameplay. Karch even noted that it wasa nostalgic series from the N64 erathat the studio wanted to bring back, callingTurok: Originsan “old-school” experience that has been revitalized with modern-day elements. “Turokis an iconic game franchise that has fascinated players for decades. As we embark on its revival, we’re proud to honor its rich heritage while reimagining it for a new era,” said Bill Kispert SVP & GM of Games & Digital Platforms at Universal Products & Experiences.
