Summary
Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito has teased that more information about a new title will be revealed as part of theNierseries' 15th anniversary. TheNierseries has become a bit of a breakout hit in recent years, thanks to the success ofNier: Automatain 2017. Square Enix also revisited the first game in the franchise with the 2021Nier Replicantremake. WhileNierhas gone on to see success in other media, like anAutomataanime adaptation, novels, and concerts, some fans are wondering when the series will have another mainline entry.
Post-Replicant’s release,Nierseries creator Yoko Taro has been working on a number of smaller projects, such as theVoice of Cardsseries. However, there have been various hints dropped by both Taro and series producer Yosuke Saito abouta potential new entry in theNierfranchise. Earlier in 2024, Saito hinted at a collaboration between Yoko Taro and series composer Keiichi Okabe, though played coy about what they were working on. A new hint has been dropped by Saito in a message to ring in the new year.

In a recent set of interviews posted by4Gamer.net(translated byGematsu), various Japanese game developers shared their ambitions for 2025, Yosuke Saito included. In his column, Saito says that 2025 will be a “milestone” year, as it marksthe 15th anniversary of theNierseriesand that he wants to do something about it. Saito then teases it may have something to do with the “next” game or developments related to something vague, noting how he’s heard the fans' expectations. The message concludes with Saito saying he’d be doing less direct work in a producing role, and that he’d appreciate fans for patiently looking forward to what’s on the horizon.
Previous Nier 3 Teases
Yosuke Saito’s cryptic teaser adds on to his previous stance, where, as long asNierseries creator Yoko Tarois alive and involved, then a third entry is possible. Saito has also previously expressed that a potentialNier 3would be a tough act to follow afterNier: Automata, doubting that a new game would be able to live up to the high commercial sales that the 2017 title had previously.
Yoko Taro also playfully teased fans about a newNiergameduring a February 2024 concert, where he asked fans to show their support for a sequel toAutomataby giving a loud applause. Cryptic clues were also dropped during the concert that led fans to believe that Taro and Square Enix were already working on aNier 3. Fans will just need to wait and see if 2025 results in something new for theNierseries.
