As many fans know,One Piece’sanime has gone on a break, which will be about 6 months long.One Piecedidn’t have an official return date until now, but the Jump Festa stage clarified that the anime will officially return on June 27, 2025.
This is quite some time away, and many fans might be confused about this break in the first place. The reason for this break was hinted at byOda in this year’s Jump Festa, and it might give an idea to fans about the future of theOne Pieceanime.
Oda’s Message During Jump Festa 2025
During this year’s Jump Festa, Oda dropped a very interesting message to fans, a part of which is as follows:
People ask me, “Why are you putting so much effort into a live-action adaptation when ONE PIECE is already popular around the world?” Yes, it may be quite known internationally in the manga and anime realm. But if you’re told that there’s a bigger playground out there in the world, wouldn’t you want to go and explore it? That’s why I’m putting my all into everything: the manga, the anime, the films, and the live-action!! And so the team is lining up various projects and announcements for ONE PIECE next year. Please look forward to the anime series resuming. And with an approach that’s more in tune with the times, I’m sure it’ll be easier for everyone to enjoy. — Eiichiro Oda

While nothing is confirmed yet, the implication hereis that theOne Pieceanimeis going seasonal, like all the other new anime coming out, instead of a continuous ongoing anime, as it has since it began airing over 25 years ago.
What This Means for the Future of One Piece
One Piecehas been a yearly anime for over 2 decades, so this change is drastic. That said, this will be a boon for the overworked staff, and at the same time, allow them to produce high-quality episodes throughout the season. On top of that, fans will see the pacing of the anime improve massively, which means an overall boost in quality.
