Summary

One Piece, as a story, features so many characters that it’s hard to keep track of. From the residents of Orange Town in the East Blue to the children of Punk Hazard, all the way to the various groups scattered throughout the Land of Wano, at times it can be difficult to keep track of every character at every point of the story. Due to this, unfortunately, at times, characters that theOne Piecefanbase thought would be important are instead left behind and forgotten.

However, at times, integral characters that were once extremely important to the story ofOne Piecehave been forgotten as well. One character specifically has had the fanbase up in arms, with many believing that they deserved far better. This character, Carrot, felt like an honorary Straw Hat crew member but was left behind by the story faster than any other.

Straw Hats Leaving Wano

Chapter 1057, Episode 1084

Carrot was first introduced to the story after the events of Dressrosa, duringOne Piece’sZou Arc. Being a part of the Minx Tribe, Carrot is a young, rabbit-humanoid and a member of Duke Dogstrom’s Musketeer Squad. Due to this, she has fairly substantial combat capabilities and can hold her own against strong opponents.

However, as the Straw Hats left Zou forOne Piece’sWhole Cake Island, Carrot secretly joined the Sanji Retrieval Team, following after her idol, Pedro. From here, Carrot was an important member of the Straw Hat team, helping save the group on multiple occasions. Additionally, even after Whole Cake Island, Carrot continued to help the Straw Hats during their time in the Land of Wano.

The Straw Hats Don’t Say Goodbye to Carrot

Left On Wano

However, despite everything thattheOne PieceMinx, Carrot, did for the crew, at the end of the Wano Arc, the Straw Hats left her behind without so much as a goodbye. Despite saying goodbye to Kin’emon and Momonosuke, Carrot doesn’t even receive a thank you for the amount of time and effort she put in. For many, this was a disappointing send-off for a character many considered to be an honorary member of the Straw Hat crew.

But there are so many people who are way stronger than me! - Carrot to the Minx Tribe

This is especially disappointing due to the amount that Carrot did during their adventures. Without Carrot awakening her Sulong form, the Straw Hats would have easily been captured byOne PieceEmperor, Big Mom. Additionally, during Whole Cake Island, Carrot witnessed her mentor and idol, Pedro, sacrifice himself to give the rest of the group a better chance of escaping. From the amount of physical and emotional trauma that Carrot went through in her time with the Straw Hats, a simple goodbye would have gone a long way.

Even outside the story, Carrot has been withthe Straw Hat crewover a significant amount of real-world time, slowly becoming one of the fanbase’s most beloved characters. Since her introduction in 2015, Carrot stuck around with the crew for over half a decade. Seeing such an important character vanish without another interaction with the Straw Hats feels like a disservice to fans.

The Anime Gives a Non-Cannon Farewell

Too Little, Too Late

Despite not receiving a canon send-off in the manga, intheOne Pieceanime, Carrot was actually given a proper goodbye during a filler episode at the end of Wano. However, despite this moment, many fans are still sad about the character’s improper send-off, which explains away her need to explore the seas as already being fulfilled from her adventures with the Straw Hats. Whether with the goodbye from the Straw Hats or not, Carrot returns to the Minx Tribe to become the new leader of the group, ultimately ending her career as a pirate.

In the end, it’s sad to see such a beloved character left behind bythe world ofOne Piece. Although Carrot joining the Straw Hats would probably be a step too far, seeing a better ending to the character’s story as we know it would have been plenty to satisfy fans. However, the story ofOne Pieceisn’t over yet. Carrot still has plenty of time to return and give fans the satisfying send-off they wanted.
