Summary
A talentedPokemonfan has turned Cubone intoGod of War’s Kratos with impressive results. The incredible crossover fanart celebrates both the iconic Gen 1 creature from thePokemongames as well as Kratos' roots inGod of War.
Pokemon’s Cubone has a uniquely sad origin storyin thePokemongames. Cubone is said to wear the skull of its deceased mother, and it carries her femur as its makeshift bone club. Its origin story is also tied to Lavender Town in the original games, making it a particularly memorable Pokemon among the original 151 that were introduced inPokemon Red and Blue.

Cubone’s origin story makes it a pretty perfect pick to change intoGod of War’s Kratos. Reddit user and artist BenEEmoon shared a 3D animation of Cubone as Kratos, with the Pokemon wielding theiconic Blades of Chaos, complete with chains wrapped around its wrists. Though Cubone doesn’t do anything beyond breathe in the animation, it’s an excellent rendition of Cubone as Kratos, with the Pokemon bearing the iconic red markings on both its skull helmet and body. The glow on the swords is particularly effective at selling the scene, with it easy to imagine Cubone charging into battle after this brief respite.
Pokemon and God of War Fans Praise Mash-Up
Fans in the comments are quite appreciative of the artwork, with many noting how appropriate the mash-up is.Kratos' backstoryincludes the unintentional slaughter of his own family, after which he becomes cursed to wear their ashes on his body, creating the pale appearance he’s partially recognized for. Fans suggested that in this case, Cubone may have accidentally murdered its own mother, and is now cursed to wear her skull for all time. Other players pointed out that this mash-up would work even better if this particular Kratos Cubone evolved into Alolan Marowak. Unlike the original Marowak, Alolan Marowak switches to a Fire/Ghost-type, which would be perfect, given Kratos' title as the Ghost of Sparta.
WhilePokemonhas never directly crossed with non-Nintendo third-party game series like this officially, it’s a fun combination to think about. Even outside of a potential crossover withGod of War, players were musing about the idea of an action game with Pokemon similar to that ofGod of War. Such a thing doesn’t exist right now, but it could be an interesting twist on the series, and somewhat plausible, since it’s already entered the realm offighting games withSuper Smash Bros. andPokken Tournament. Many fans would likely enjoy an opportunity to play an action game as their favorite Pokemon, rather than simply commanding them as a Pokemon trainer with the way the core game series works.
