Summary
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocketfans have a chance to boost up their Water-type decks with the arrival of a new Blastoise Drop Event. A new set of Solo battles inPokemon Trading Card Pocketgives players the chance to get a new Blastoise promo card, along with a handful of others.
Blastoise is an impressive Pokemonthat has been around since the franchise’s origins in the ’90s. It was featured as the cover star ofPokemon Blue, one of the first pair ofPokemongames to be released in the West, and is the final evolved form of Gen 1 starter Squirtle, making it many longtime players' first fully evolved starter. With this new event, mobile game players have a great opportunity to add this iconic tortoise to Water-type decks.

During this special event, players will have the opportunity to earn limited-timePokemon TCG Pocketcardsfrom single-card Promo-A Vol. 3 packs by completing solo battles against Water-type decks, all of which include members of Blastoise’s evolutionary line. There are four different decks to play against, which increase in difficulty as players unlock them. Winning against any of these packs gives players a chance to unlock one of these promo packs, which will be sent to their Gifts box, and players will have additional chances at more promo packs for repeat victories against any of the four solo-play decks.
When is the Blastoise Drop Event in Pokemon TCG Pocket?
The Blastoise contained in the promo pack is not one ofPokemon TCG Pocket’s Blastoise ex cards, so while it may not be quite as powerful as some other Blastoise cards already in players' decks, it’s also less risky to use, only giving an opponent one point for a knockout instead of two. The card has 150 HP and is equipped with Hydro Pump, which deals 80 base damage at a cost of two Water energy and one extra energy of any type, but having an additional two Water energy attached to Blastoise bumps the base power up to 140. Other cards contained in Promo-A Vol. 3 packs are special Eevee, Snivy, Cinccino, and Volcarona promo cards.
The event also coincides with the start of thePokemon TCG Pocket New Year Event, which also launched on January 1 and will run through January 7. Some of the rewards in the New Year Event can be gained by participating in battles, and solo battles against the Blastoise-themed decks count towards that total. After completing first one, and then three battles during the New Year Event, players will earn a free five-card Mythical Island pack. Since the Blastoise Drop Event allows players to compete five times initially, with a cooldown timer that adds one more battle opportunity every 12 hours without expending any items, players who manage to win the majority of their first set of battles can quickly grab both of these free packs in one session.
