The sequel was announced shortly after the sixth installment was released, with Christopher Landon tapped to direct and Meslissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega set to reprise their respective roles as Sam and Tara Carpenter. However, the writers were forced to retool the film afterBarrera was fired fromScream 7over social media posts in support of Palestine that Spyglass Media deemed anti-Semitic (an accusation Barrera and many fans refute) and Ortega dropped out shortly after, reportedly over scheduling conflicts and salary disputes.
