Summary

Secret Levelfans almost got aHaloandDoomcrossover. Prime Video’s video game-inspired anthology series brought beloved titles fromMega MantoWarhammer 40Kto TV, leaving many fans wanting other franchises to get the same treatment in later seasons. Now,Secret Levelcreators Tim Miller and Dave Wilson have revealed that they, too, wanted to adapt more games, going so far as to pitch aHaloandDoomepisode.

The team behind the animated series were not afraid to take risks with their source material. Most notably,Secret LevelturnedPac-Maninto a horror, but not all of Miller and Wilson’s ideas got the go-ahead to make it into the final show. As popular asDoomandHaloare, the proposed mash-up of the two titles failed to make it beyond the pitch.

In an interview withCollider, Miller and Wilson revealed theywanted to make a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossoverepisode but got turned down. Miller expressed frustration at fan comments asking whySecret LevelfeaturedSpelunkybut notHalo, saying that they talked with Microsoft about it but couldn’t get the project off the ground. Wilson elaborated that they wrote an “impassioned letter” to Microsoft and id Software, but the studios turned down the idea. WhileSecret Levelis still one of the best game adaptations of 2024, some fans will be disappointed to discover it may have been even better if the crossover between these two fan-favorite franchises made it to the screen.

Secret Level Season 2 Could Feature New Games Not in Season 1

HaloandDoomwere not the only games Miller and Wilson wanted to adapt but weren’t able to. Miller also remarked that they “begged” to make aHalf-Lifeepisode, which also didn’t go anywhere. The creators explained that many titles have pre-existing adaptation deals that may stop them from givingSecret Levelthe rights to adapt them, and other studios simply say no. However, getting turned down for the first season doesn’t necessarily mean something won’t happen in the future. Amazon has already confirmed thatSecret Levelwill get a second season, which could cover games that didn’t make it to season one.

Miller said that the team is hopeful that the first season’s success will open doors to adapting other IP in Season 2. Whether that means theHalo/Doomcrossover will finally happen is unclear, and Miller did note that “there are still a lot of lawyers,” suggesting copyright issues and other deals could still get in the way. It’s not these big companies and their legal teams that they fear the most, though. Miller has said thatSecret Level’s creators are scared of the fansmore than anything else. That fear may inspire them to take on big studios to bring their dreams into reality to satisfy fans in later seasons.
