Fans Spot Strange Parallels Between Severance’s Lumon and Apple
Over on theSeveranceReddit page, a fan of the series posted what they thought were eerie similarities between Lumon Industries, the show’s biotechnology company, and the tech giant Apple. The fan, who goes by the name ofArteye-Photo, initially points out that Lumon and Apple almost have the same address. In season one, episode two ofSeverance, Petey gives Mark the location of Lumon, which reads 499 Half Loop Rd, strangely comparable to Apple’s old headquarters address of 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California. However, the parallels don’t stop there.
Arteye also highlights how Lumon employees regard Kier Eagan, the visionary founder and first CEO of Lumon, as a “god-like” entity, akin to many tech devotees were of Steve Jobs, best known for co-founding Apple Inc. Another similarity was drawn to The Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, which was compared to the Perpetuity Wing at Lumon in the series that serves as a museum to Lumon Industries and the Eagan family’s core values. An image of Lumon and Apple’s buildings was also posted to showcase how they both look so alike structurally, with both of the companies incorporating a circular architecture. Bell Labs, a previously big American tech giant and now part of the Finnish telecommunications company Nokia, was used as a stand-in for Lumon’s headquarters in the show, and it certainly does bear an overwhelming similarity to Apple’s own HQ.
